I've been talking with my local army recruiter, and getting ready to sign up, but a couple of things have developed that concern me.
I was initially interested in 35L, but all of my independent research, including on the army website said you have to be in for 2 years before you can reclass to CI. At the recruiter's office however, they showed me a video of this MOS as a possibility and assured me that it was, in fact, available as an entry-level position. So I am, understandably (I hope), confused.

My second choice would be 35M, and after reading a lot about that, including some very helpful links on this forum, I asked the recruiter some questions along those lines. He didn't seem to know that much about it, specifically, but I guess that's understandable. I understand that the language requirement has been suspended (which surprised him), but if I can take the DLAB and score highly is it still possible to get into the DLI as a new recruit or is that solely an incentive for reenlistment at this point? He told me that it shouldn't be a problem, although he also said that I probably couldn't take the DLAB until I had enlisted.

So I'm getting a bit of contradictory information on several things, and I was hoping someone could help clear it up for me.

I know they offer DLAB testing at MEPS, because language is a basic MOS requirement for 35Ps. Whether or not you can take it may be a different story, however, and your recruiter should be doing some homework to find out for sure.

Having a good DLAB score doesn't ensure you'll get the language training you want. If you can manage to take the DLAB, and get a decent enough score, you might be able to get it on your enlistment contract. Don't take a verbal promise of a school. If it isn't in your contract, it probably won't happen. Especially if it'll tie you up for a year or more.

Until recently, 12 months or so, you could initially enlist for 35L. That has definitely changed. You can now only enter the MOS as an E5 or E6. There's no firm time in service requirement that I know about, but you do need to be in long enough to make it to E5 at the least. Also, it's on an application only basis. And TS Clearance is required too.
If you're enlisting for 35M, you won't go to DLI after basic training. Since the language requirement has been suspended and that MOS is very much in demand, you'll go right to a regular unit. The best way to get DLI as a 35M is to reenlist for it as a training option.
