Hey I live in Maine. I am joining the Army Reserves and I am going to be a 31B. I asked my recruiter about Ranger or Airborne oppurtunities for me but apparently there is none? Is it just becuase of my location or something? Or is he just wrong completely. I also want to know about sniper school. If I get expert on the M16a2 qualification, will I be able to go to sniper school if my MOS is MP? ASAP answers would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably because your reserve unit isn't a designated Airborne or Ranger unit. For Active personnel it's different, because they could PCS to an Airborne unit in the future. As for Sniper school... sorry about that too. As it says on the website:

-MOS 11B, 11M, and all 18 series (Non-waiverable)

Phase II of the MP SRT course is Law Enforcement Marksman training. Similar, just urban, closer, and more precise shooting situations. You'd have a way better shot at that. But the course is still hard. The dropout rate when I attended Phase II was almost 80% (not including me, of course Wink).

Good luck, feel free to ask more questions.

How did you get in with the dysthmia condition. I saw it on another board awhile back. Cause I am a recruiter and have yet to get someone on in that had that issue. Or did you just keep it hush hush. Any way all the schools you are asking about. There has to be skill id's attached to those at the reserve unit so yes it is where you are located. With everything you want to do sounds you would be better off going straight active. Many people go to school while they are on active duty.

Hmmm... entrapment is never a good idea... I'm not sure you should ask that question.

Not trying to entrap anyone. It just rasies a concern that a person with emotional problems coming into our Army at war is not a good judgement call. But hey he os going into the MP Corp so he will be by yourside fighting while i finish 17 more months of recruiting.

Whatever guy. You're talking like there aren't any soldiers in the Army with worse issues.

Thanks Smittayy for your information very helpful. I would like to know more about SRT becuase in my research that I have done so far it looked very appealing to me. And I am going Reserves because that is what I have been going along for for about a year now. Anyways when I enlist after awhile I can switch to Active if I really want to. So it dosen't matter that I am going in Reserves now. And I might be doing the ROTC program at the college I am going to aswell... As to the dysthymia, my doctor believes that I have might of been diagnosed, my papers are going to the Med Read team as we speak, I have no problems with my enlistment accpet that I was on a medication that had no affect on me and still hasn't when I am off it. Apparently I should of been off the med a while back before trying to enlist becuase it creates conflicts. But anyways I know what im doing as far as MOS, and Reserve/Active, just trying to figure out if theres anything else out there for me to go along with it.

SRT is a very specialized school and it's not handed out like airborne and/or air assault, especially in the reserves. The best advice that I can give you is to try and join a garrison unit, that might give you a little better shot. Just be ready to pay your dues in whatever unit you join, because we are going through this with a kid who just joined my unit, just graduated AIT and now he thinks that he deserves everything given to him on a silver platter. Just don't be that guy.

SPC DeHaan to USMC Captain, after pulling him over.
MP: "Sir, do you know why I pulled you over?"
USMC: "Because I'm driving on an Army base?"
