[quote:12120b8089]i hear a nasty rumor there pulling people for deployment before finishing school??????[/quote:12120b8089] That has only happened to a very small number of careerist students holding critical MOSs. No IET students. DLI has lost some cadre without getting replacements due to short-notice PCSs to support deploying units - so the cadre is more understaffed than ever as the number of students expands. [quote:12120b8089]How bad is the attrition or "rock out" rate in CAT IV languages? I've heard some stories that said, 20%. Others have said 50-60% of your class will be wiped out before the year is up.[/quote:12120b8089] It can range anywhere between that 20% to 60% range, depending upon a lot of factors, i.e. teaching team is poor or there just happened to be a larger proportion of rocks in a certain class. And not all of the drops are complete - some get recycled, some get relanguaged into a lower category language - but quite a few do get dropped and reclassed.

Kinda hard when your hip feels like it's bout to give out any second :P Which gaining Co. did you move to?[/quote:b29940bd3e] I was in A Co., but I think most of the cadre has moved by now. If 1SG Ayala is still there, give him my regards.
[quote:193827d0aa="Epic Honor"]What have you heard about how D Co. is?[/quote:193827d0aa] back when I was there (a year ago) it was a careerist company. So, I don't really know what it's like now.
I feel your pain about being in B Co. I was there for about 9 months (I was on profile for a long time). My suggestion is to stay motivated, stay out of trouble and show you are a mature individual. I got along great with all of the DS and did a lot of extra things there.
They switched the gaining company arrangements from when I was there. There were permanent party companies and IET companies... now the reclasses are in the same company as those who are just getting to know the ARMY. I suggest you try to get as much information about the ARMY from these Soldiers because the ARMY is very much different than the DLI.
Good luck in class and ensure you study a lot as well as make time for yourself on the weekends.

[quote:aa62ff80c0="Epic Honor"]OK, ya'll start telling me about Goodfellow now...[/quote:aa62ff80c0] Oh lord... just... enjoy DLI, that's all I gotta say. When you get to Goodfellow, remind yourself that it'll end soon.
Goodfellow AFB is not bad if you pass the language course and your DLPT. That is because you will be going to 98G or 98C school without lossing your Phase V+ status. If you go there without passing DLI you will get phased back to Phase IV. As for how much you work and study at Goodfellow compared to DLI... you have a little bit more free time at Goodfellow because you can't do your homework at home. So when you leave work for the day you are pretty much done.
But like I have been saying... ENJOY DLI!!!!!!! It is the best place I have ever been.

well, what I hated about Goodfellow was that, despite having retained Phase V+ status, I went back to being treated like a little child who needed to have their hand held at all times. The four months I was there for felt much longer than the 18 months that I was at DLI. It's not that it's hard, it's just that there's alot of BS that you have to put up with. B Co at DLI had some BS you put up with, but atleast the Drill Sergeants seemed to let up at times and treat us like adults until we proved we needed to be treated otherwise. The Drill Sergeants at Goodfellow just seem to treat eveyone like little kids, and that just drove me up the wall. That's what I hated most.
Oh and then there's the fact that San Angelo has absolutely nothing to do, and is a complete hole of a town. Going there from Monterey is a bit of a drag.
[quote:b04ce83173="Epic Honor"]What's the PT like?[/quote:b04ce83173] I hated the PT, but alot of that was due to the fact that it was during the transition that TRADOC was making with the PT program, and I was already used to doing the "Old School" style of PT, and when I got to Goodfellow, they'd already instituted the new program. I thought it was cumbersome and tedious, and I never really got as good of a workout as I used to. But I dunno, you might already be used to it.
i finally got my orders for DLI. the class date is 20 aug. i guess but it say i have to be there for inprocessing no later than 01 aug :?: . anyhow, can anyone tell me how day to day life is for a student there; preferably a reclass/careerist soldier from someone who has been there recently and not someone who was there a million years ago. i know everyone has there own experiences in life but i figured maybe someone could give a heads up on some things that may affect how my feelings about the place.

Since you'll be in korean you'll be hung over damn near every morning. Only the Alcoholics passed in my class and about 70% of my class ended up rocking out. anyway give yourself extra time in the morning for the traffic cause it sucks. school goes from 0800-1530(at least when I was there). at 1600 is pt, until 1700. then you have to get the night off to go to mandatory study for two hours(back in BDUs). go home and finish your homework because you need to sudy your ass off and make sure to drink while you study, you speak foreign languages somewhat better when you are half blitzed. start over the next day. And if you're lucky enough to pass you can come be with the rest of the happy souls in 2ID!
