I was reading an article about how Military Police were needed so bad that they are considering converting some National Guard Artillery Units to MP.

The article was in a newspaper out of St. Loiuis.

The 1/172nd and the 2/197th FA Units of the NHARNG we recetly activated. It is general knowledge here that they may be serving in Iraq as MPs.

Not for here - they have rent-a-cops at the gates of all of the bases/facilities around here.

Well, to those of you getting Army guard troop-s you will get a mixed bag. You will get a few squared away troops and you will have your token obliviots. All considered I was pleasantly surprised.

The Army just activated a MOARNG ARTY unit out of my base. Their first assignment as a Battery was to go to Ft Leonard Wood, and reclass the entire unit to MPs.

We were suppose to get a few of them here in Europe to work the road for us, but we have not yet seen them. From what I was told they received 4 weeks of MP training at Leonard Wood. HOPE THEY LIKE THE JOB! Big Grin

Name one bad thing about the job. You get to drive around and talk to folks and in the event that somebody is being a confirmed idiot(ie commiting a misdemeanor or felony) you get to thump them. Of course they'll love it

Nothing bad about the job, but most Artillery I have dealt with like to hear things go "BOOM". Not the same mentality as an MP. But, I am sure the new found power will go some heads. It ought to be interesting.

I am a MP in the National Guard, and they haven't sent our unit anywhere, so I don't know why they would use another MOS for the job.
