You are forgetting the basic rule when trying to understand the military, If it makes sense to do things a certain way, then there is always an alternative some O-6 would rather see us use. :lol:

On this issue, and I can say since I am attending school at Wood right now. Gen Curry stated that the Army as a whole i short MP's. They want at least another 5-7,000 MP's in the Army on top of the 39,000 they already have. That is why they are disbanding the units that they see as not being as valuable as they once were.

I know that this post if fairly old, but we have been using a reclassed artillerymen here for over a year and I have to say that in some ways they are better than Active duty MPs, and in some worse. I was amazed when I first heard that they would be working as patrols, but they have done a pretty good job all things considered. I am impressed. They didn’t bring a whole battery worth, because some of the soldiers couldn't get a security clearance. The unit here is the 1/129th out of Missouri.
