I am thinking of joining the army. I am 26 and I have 100 hours of college credits. I just took the asvab and scored a 90. I think if I took it again I could do better somewhere in the upper 90's, but my recruiter says there is no need to take it again. Anyways I am interested in finding out more information on the 96u. Is anyone able to tell me what there typical day, training, and life is in that mos? Thank You
i have checked that out a couple of times, but i was wondering what their days are like, and how is training? any other info would be great as well. thanks

I am a 96U who is currently deployed to Iraq. I joined as a 96U two years ago straight out of college as well. I had alot of bad experiences that will/have been taken care of by now. As far as the job it is very fun but as you might assume after spending 8 hours a day, 6 days a week it gets just as boring and monotonous. If you have any further question from someone who has actually been in this MOS, feel free to ask.
Just to put a monkey wrech in the works... I know that 96U is currently taught at Ft. Huachuca but that might only be for a little while longer. The ARMY is moving that MOS from MI Branch to Aviation Branch soon. I only heard rumors of when that was going to happen so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground.

ArmyCadet, if you're going to be a 96U more than likely the orders will reflect if the training is relocated...you will receive your AIT/PCS orders after you graduate BCT.
More than likely they'll continue trainng at Huachuca, but maybe they just fall under another Command. The 96U are still considered MI as of todays date.

Sorry... I should have clarified my comment better. 96U is an area that is relatively new to the ARMY and they are trying to find out where it best fits in the grand scheme of things. The training is still at Ft. Huachuca and I don't think anyone there can tell you big ARMY's plans are yet.
Sorry for not making it clear that I was putting out info that has not been finalized.
It won't happen again.

I am currently in a TUAV Platoon, deployed to Iraq. The 96U MOS is being transitioned into Aviation sometime this quarter, if not this month. There new MOS will be a 15 series. The AIT as far as I have heard is still going out of Ft. Huachuca, but may be moving to Ft. Rucker. Shadow is the UAV that is being deployed to most Army brigades, Hunter is being phased out and replaced with something a little more high-speed. you can check out shadow at AAI's website...just google for AAI Corp. A typical day for a 96U in country is flying 8-12 hours a day, with typical breaks.I am not an operator, nor have I ever wish to be, so my comments are biased! haha. I only have to fix it. I hope that you find this helpful!
