I am ex Navy trying to pick an MOS I did very well in the ASVAB back then and plan to qualify for 97B or 97E I dont know much about either other than what Ive read on the Army site and read here, I want a job that isnt going to keep me behind a desk the rest of my career I like the idea of getting out there in the community to do my job , interrogation sounds interesting, finding sources in the community , excitement you know.... I am also trying to plan for a good paying career after I retire. I know these are MOS that you cant really go into detail about but from what Ive said can anyone give me a hint as to which one is "better" or more fun/active , exciting..etc. Day to day job decription maybe (in general of course)
Thanks
James

37F - Psychological Operations Specialist
The psychological operations (PSYOP) specialist plans, analyzes, develops, designs, produces, distributes, disseminates and evaluates PSYOP across the range of military operations.

38B - Civil Affairs Specialist
Civil affairs specialists are the designated AA and USAR forces and units organized, trained, and equipped specifically to conduct CA activities, Civil Affairs Operations (CAO) and to support Civil-Military Operations (CMO). The CMF is non-accession in the AC and initial accession in the USAR. The CMF identifies soldiers and units organized, trained and equipped to command and conduct CAO, Civil Affairs activities and support CMO. The CA mission is to facilitate and conduct operations that are planned, executed and transitioned by functional specialists to mitigate or defeat threats to civil society and assist in establishing the capability for indigenous governments to deter or defeat future civil threats. CA operations are inherently joint, interagency and multinational (JIM) in nature. These operations are conducted through, with or by indigenous populations and institutions (IPI), international organizations (IO), non-governmental organizations (NGO), or other governmental agencies (OGA) applying all instruments of national power (Diplomatic, Informational, Military, and Economic (DIME)). Special or civilian acquired skills and experience (within the fields of governance; public health & welfare; public infrastructure; public safety/rule of law; economics; and public education and information) are the skill sets that make the CA Career Management Field (CMF) unique. These skills, coupled with detailed knowledge of a country’s culture, history, politics, economy, language and institutions at all levels, are usually acquired through personal professional development, scheduled reserve training, military and civilian education, and in the civilian workplace. CA Soldiers and units operate independently, in support of other forces, or with other units assigned in support of CA. They interact closely with IPI, IO, NGO and OGA. CA forces support the CMO staffs of geographic, theater Army component and maneuver commanders down to battalion Task Force level. CA units conduct CA activities, which include: populace and resource control, humanitarian assistance and support to civil administration.

I don't know how long you have been out of the service, but here is some news that may help. 97B is no longer an option for new recruits, it is a 20 Level MOS. What this means is the training is only open to those Soldiers who are E5 and above to include all Officers and WO. There are many requirements that need to be completed prior to being selected into the 97B MOS. Hope this helps without getting into any of the "grey areas".
