Why not?
My husband has one and it's been a godsend while he's been in Iraq. He has one of the 60G photo ones and it's been great. He had about 30 days worth of music on it (if he were to listen to it nonstop), plus tons of photos from home. On top of all that, his has about 30 books on it so he can read them right off the iPod or download them onto his laptop and read them off there. And since it has about 20 hours or more of battery life, he can go a couple days without worrying about charging it. It's been great for him.

Think I have plenty of portable music toys.
Good point. I have an MP3 player on my cell as well, but it's a pain in the butt to use. I mainly like the iPod becuase it is more than just an MP3 player.
My answer was No, and I don't plan to. I don't like to listen to stuff all the time, and a small MP3 player would do the job for much less money if I ever felt like I needed one. For computer fiiles, I have a flash drive. For organizing my life, I have a PDA.

I don't like the iPod mostly due to its trendiness. Everyone seems to want one, and it just bugs me. Commercials everywhere, gah! I have an MP3 player that works just fine... and if I really wanted, I'd go for a PDA before I went for an iPod.

not doing something just because it is trendy is the same is doing it because it is.
If you are just a casual music listener an IPod isnt for you. but i could never be satasfied with an MP3 that doesnt hold my entire music collection, which is somewhere in the four digit range. I love music, next to my wife its the most important thing to me. I don't like to be anywhere where i dont have music at my finger tips, and i hate having a small mp3 player where i think of a song, but damn it i didnt load it today. so ipod is the way to go, especially since now they play video.
I have a Dell Pocket DJ. It's about a gig worth of songs and I only have my entire Bob Marley collection (about 15 CDs and 222 songs) on it. I think the normal capacity is 1200 songs.

My husband has an 4GB Ipod mini. I inherited his old 1GB Ipod shuffle when he got it. I suppose it's better than my old Rio 64MB MP3 player, but the shuffle certainly has its limitations (for example, no display screen, no ability to look for specific music, etc.) It is nice and small, though, so it's a good companion for exercising.
