Question:
Just wondering how old everyone here was when they first enlisted and went through basic training (or for those who haven't shipped yet, how old will you be?)...

I enlisted at the age of 20 in Heidelberg, Germany on April 14, 2003.

In Army years I'm still a baby but my experiences these days have added a few years.

enlisted Army National Guard at the age of 17

I enlisted at 20 and left for BCT right after I turned 21.

Enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 (and had to have my parents sign the contract with me) while still a senior in high school and at Marine Corps Boot Camp at 18.

As soon as I get my pilot's licenes I'm leaving for the army. I'll be 17.

I was 23

17 for me. Turned 18 shortly before being assigned to my first unit (while on permissive TDY). It was damn funny when I tried to buy a car but the dealership insisted that my parrents cosign.

I spent my 22nd birthday at basic. It wasn't a training day either, we ended up cleaning up the commissary parking lot. In the rain. Best b-day ever... *drips with sarcasm*

Enlisted at 17, did the DEP thing for 11 months. was 18 in basic

22 for me. first birthday that ever really meant anything. I realized manhood was achieved through hard work, not an age...

I was 31 when I attended basic training. Surprisingly, I wasn't the oldest recruit!

The other recruits called me "Grand Pa."

The drill sergeants gave me more responsibility (served as PG for seven of the nine weeks); this gave me a huge jumpstart in Army leadership.

The DS's were glad to see someone who was mature, responsible and could do PT. That allowed them to go home by 1730 after week four.

I was 18 when i enlisted in 1986

I left home for basic on my 18th B-day in 1999

Enlisted straight while in HS and went to basic at age 18. I find it interesting though, that we have a lot more 17 year olds completing basic training & AIT and getting assigned to their units. We have a couple 17 yr olds hanging out in Rear D here until they turn 18 in order to deploy forward.
