My BCT and AIT aren't very far from one another (Ft. Jackson to Ft. Gordon). What are the chances that I would be allowed to have my husband drive me there, rather than be stuck on a bus?

hate to tell you but more than likely you will be placed on a bus.

Yeah, most probably you will have to go on the bus. They are pretty strict about that to keep the whole training environment mentality there. But once you are at AIT, if your husband lives nearby, you may get to see him on some weekends.

Thanks for the info. I was just trying to squeeze in every possible minute with my husband. From what I have been told about my AIT, it sounds like after the first few weeks I'll have weekend passes. Georgia isn't right around the corner from Pennsylvania but I'm sure we'll still do our best...

just make sure that you are squared away so that they don't take your passes from you. That would suck for you husband to come down only to find out that you did not have a pass

When will you be at AIT? If there are any holiday weekends in there, you'll probably have 3 or 4 days off and can get a pass. Then it could be worth it for him to take the drive down there.

I had the same exact training path. When I graduated from basic my family came and saw me graduate. Afterwards they drove me to Ft Gordon.

when was this? We were told in 2001 that unless you were split op that you had to take the governments transportation.

That's what we were told as well. This was in 2003.

Just to let you know:
Just because the hubby's close by don't mean you'll be able to see him.
I have a private who lives in the town 3 miles away. He hasn't seen his wife since he got to reception. There's another one whose sister used to be in and got out, but her husband was stationed here, so she lives ON POST. Well, let's just say, when we saw the pictures of half the platoon hanging by her car when on a limited pass, that private is under orders to not ask her sister to meet her anywhere. Sometimes you can control, sometimes you can't. Just to tell you NOT to get to thinking you'll be getting conjucal visits.

Alot of it will depend on a multitude of things. One of the big reasons was how close Ft Jackson and Ft Gordon are. I went through basic and AIT in mid to late 1996.
