Greetings, Promotion question here:

I am potentially reclassing from 98J to 33W, which has an approx 40+ week AIT.

Can I be promoted/boarded during this long AIT?

For example go into Tradoc as a Specialist, and leave a pinned-on Sgt?

I am quite sure if this was possible, my next stop on the road would be the NCO academy.

Thanks,

Jason

That is a NEGATIVE!!! You must complete your AIT into your new MOS before you can be boarded for promotion to the NCO ranks..... Reference this in AR 600-8-19 --> Enlisted Promotions and Reductions.....

Per AR 600-8-19
c Once a soldier is reclassified, he or she can no longer compete in the old PMOS.
d. Soldiers with an approved voluntary reclassification will compete in their current PMOS through the month of
reclassification.

look at the upside. Being in a training/school environment is the BEST time to knock out all your correspondance courses, and even do civilian ed at nite...if you so choose. B/C your schedule will be so set, and predictable, and no deployments, or field time, and rarely rarely any duty. Just the whole "student/trainie" treatment. But you have lots of free time to prepare yourself so when the time DOES come, ur aready locked and ready for the promotion / cut-off.

I never thought that possibly I could take night classes when I go to 68W school come October. I'm really going to look into this. Jeez I can't believe I didn't think of this.
