My wife is a 35N and her AIT is in Goodfellow AFB. She had told me that her AIT was pushed back a month because there was not enough people to proceed with the classes. Do they still get priviledges at the 4 week mark or is it the 4 week mark after they have started there AIT?

I am a 35F. When I was at Fort Huachuca, I was held under for a month before my class started. 5 weeks after class started, my platoon got phase 5. But, from what I heard from others, they took DS out of AIT, so it may or may not be sooner. Phase 5 is where you get civilan clothes back, and get overnight passes, etc.

whether that's the way it goes for her or not, get used to it, 2 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. even when she gets to her unit, things will come up similar and it sucks, but what are you gonna do? she should be able to ask around and find out when she will get a pass or you will be able to visit her....

Yeah i know im gonna have to get used to it. I wasnt expecting not to see her after basic training though. I think i may have made a mistake by letting her go.

I didn't live with my wife for 3 years thanks to Basic, AIT, straight to Korea, straight to Iraq. No you didn't make a mistake, I commend you and your spouse for your sacrifice.

you didn't make a mistake so much as you didn't realize in full the sacrifices that you would have to make as a spouse. i'm sure you thought about deployments and stuff like that but most don't realize that training takes up a lot of time as well, i have plenty of spouses in our frg that call me wanting to know why on earth their husband is in the field so much between deployments.

i like to think of it this way, if you are always together all of the time, you start to get on each other's nerves. it's inevitable, if your spouse doesn't get on your nerves at least a little every so often then you are one of the few, but this way, you have time to have your own experiences, your on time, and more to talk about as the years go by. when you do see her again in a month or so, it'll be so overwhelming and amazing that you won't even realize how long it was. just be patient.... and remember the true army motto, "hurry up and wait!"

thank you! I really appreciate that. Ive seen my aunt go through alot and im just not ready to go through all of that. My uncle was one of the first to go to Iraq and Korea. Both my cousins are over there too. Me and my wife have personal problems going on that need addressing ASAP and i cant talk to her over the phone for too long. I dont know. Thanks again so much, in all seriousness that does help.

I am a 35S (former 98K before realignment). I went to AIT in Pensacola, Fl. I was held over for a month because they didn't have enough people to start a class. That didn't affect me being allowed to phase. I had to pass an APFT, tell the DS why I thought I was ready to phase, and take a test on all the ranks of the other services (it was a naval post important to know the different ranks). Oh, yeah and had to pass a white glove room inspection. I got there the first week in August and phased the first week in September the same week I started class. That was my experience.

Yes. I'm Infantry so my AIT was...basic. The entire thing was all lumped together into a massive amount of pushups and overhead arm claps. Alot of things are done per command, unit, post, company, etc. So you will really just have to wait and find out.
