Hoping that someone here can help me. I understand the normal AIT class is 16 weeks, my husband has just elected to change his MOS and was assigned a class that is only 9 weeks for the same MOS. Can someone explain the differences between the two classes? He doesn't have prior medical training and I worry that the shorter class will be that much more difficult for him to get through. Also, how can I best support him while he's away training for his new career? Thanks in advance.

I am a 68W and have been for 10yrs now...never heard of a short course. Either way, don't worry, they will train him and he will pass. As for your support...send him letters letting him know that you are doing ok, how much you love/miss him, and how proud you are of him.

Medic training is an ongoing changing affair as the field is also changing and thus we change to accompdate. I continue to take updating classes in my field to keep with the times and feel that it is possible that your question may be subject to the changes mentioned. In every case I have found that the Army has done a much better job of training us for what is expected than civilians could ever do. I have found, also, that many of the FMs and assossiated books can be found via the net. Accessing and reading them in advance and reviewing them regularly has helped me a great deal and may be just what is needed for your man as well. No one is born with this knowedge inbedded in their minds but great minds have digested it and saved lives as a result of its use.

I have never heard of a 9 week course. It is 16 weeks last time I checked.

The first 8 weeks are for the EMT-B---National Registry. Then the next 8 weeks are for military-related 91W training.

The majority of attrition is from failure to pass the EMT-B exam. So preparing by studying for the EMT-B National Registry test before hand is the best preperation.

There was being offered an 8 week course for those who ALREADY hold the EMT-B certification. Since the first 8 weeks are all training for that. They were advanced to week 9 from the beginning.

Well how long is phase 1???

I graduated from that course about 1.5 yrs ago. And unless you were ALREADY EMT-B certified. Then it was a 16 week course....prior service, nco, new private/ait....everyone...16 weeks.

Might have changed, its been 1.5 yrs since i myself re-classed to 68W. So im not really sure. It was one phase and 16 weeks total when I went through. Look up to see what phase 1 consists of.

hey....this might help. Here is a link that can be of help. It gives the details/length/phase breakdowns/dates of all army courses given. Might be of help...

Also to echo what CMBTMedic007 said...he will do just fine, and support/emails/phone calls from loved ones...always does a soldier good.
