I am currently a PFC at Fort Benning, GA. My current MOS is 25U. I am loving the army but my current MOS is not gonna challenge me. I would like to reclass into a 11B slot with a SF option if possible. My PT scores are above 270 and I have a GT score of 110. If I've read right that would qualify me for selection. I love the army but if I'm not pushed I will not work to my full potential and I will not enjoy my career. I spoke with one of my DS and he said its possible to reclass before I leave for AIT. If I read that chart correctly, it shows that both MOS's are in demand. Since 11B is combat arms, do you think I can reclass?? I've done alot of research and this website is top notch! Thank you for all your help.
Army Reenlistment can correct me if I am wrong, but you will only reclass during AIT if you do not meet the standards for that MOS and the cadre determine reclassification if necessary. Then it will be needs of the Army.
Why not just get through AIT, and put in a packet for SFAS.....they accept any MOS into selection. They will also teach you everything you need to know to pass selection, they will go over land nav and everything else, just because you were an 11B wouldn't make it any easier. My recruiter was an 88M before he went...

This is "normally" has it works; sometimes, Soldiers are told things (and they believe it because they don't know any better) that aren't going to happen.
I would just point out, how do you know your not going to be challenged when you don't even know what your job is yet. If you want to go and play with the grunts, hey I understand. As a 25U, chances are pretty good that you are going to be going to some kind of combat arms unit anyway. Like Army Reup said, work your job for a little bit (you may love it) and if not, reclass when you get in your window, or just put in your SFAS packet once you get to your first unit.
