I am told that AIT is from 9 to 24 weeks, I see that for several intel related MOS(s). Why is that? What makes the difference? If you screw up do they keep you there till you get it right? Or do the send the dumb ones home at 9 weeks and finish training the rest for 24?

What do you mean "if I make it through the first time." Can you tell me anything about what training will be like. Obviously many details may be classified, but any general info would be appreciated.

Also, I am looking at 96B in the reserves, and if anyone can share with me their experiences or knowledge of what drill is like for reserve 96B's that would be most appreciated.

the job of the 96b is to analyze intelligence collected from HUMINT (human intell) SIGINT (signal intel) etc. and write reports based on the information recieved. You make map overlays, plastic sheets that gover maps, that show locations of targets, friendly and enemt troops. You will also compile charts the to find conections between people, places, and events that at first glance, may be unrelated. I say, if you make it through the first time, because it is a tough course to go through. Not everyone makes it through the first time arround. Although i am not a 96b myself, i know people who are and people who couldn't grasp the concept ar first.

I'm at AIT at Ft. Huachuca right now to be a 96B. My training is 16 weeks and 4 days, but the word is that it was shortened by a few weeks and some cycles may still be a couple weeks longer. Monday through Friday we spend 0900 through 1630 in class with an hour for lunch and intermittent breaks. There isn't a lot of field training involved. TRADOC (the Army's department for training) did just change to a 6 day work week, however, so we spend Saturday mornings (0800 through 1300) training for the field: marksmanship, first aid, etc. It really isn't that bad at all and after Basic it will feel like an immense amount of freedom. Near the end of the course the is a 10 day FTX (Field Training Exercise) in which you will stay out in the field and actually perform your job.
There is a chance that you could spend more time in AIT than you had planned. A few soldiers in my platoon had arrived to find that all the slots in the next class had been filled and had to wait a few weeks for the next class. If you have any issues with your security clearance you can be pulled out of class until they are resolved and this will probably cause you to get recycled. If you fail a retest (a test after a failed test) you can also be recycled or if you simply don't display the necessary discipline to graduate they'll recycle you. This has only happened to a few soldiers so far (one month in.) Worst case scenario is that you try to hide something from the investigators working your clearance or you get into debt or break the law while in AIT. We had one soldier get caught stealing from the PX and he is no longer going to be a 96B, but a supply specialist. It is very easy to stay out of trouble, though. I highly recommend the job and the Army in general. You get a lot out of it and do a lot that you couldn't get a chance to do anywhere else. Good luck, whatever you choose.

Hahaha a soldier was caught stealing from the PX, so instead of making him an Intel Analyst, they're going to make him a Supply Specialist? Oh wow...stick a thief in the supply room, that's really great. Way to go!

There's a better one sergeant. A private was caught smoking pot so they're making him a medic. Give him the keys to the medicine cabinet!?!

I guess when it rains, it pours. When I was doing my 15T (67T) AIT back in the day, we had a couple of guys fail out due to stress (at least that was why they said they couldn't pass their tests), so instead of puttin ghtme in a less stressful MOS, they sent them to the overly stressful Air Traffic Controller's Course. Obvioulsy they weren't smart enough to work on the aircraft, so let's train them to control them in the pattern. Some things never seem right to those with cognitive reasoning.

I've already gone to MEPS and signed up as an intelligence analyst, but I don't ship out for another few months. What are some things you guys would recommend doing to prepare for intelligence school? Is there anything you wish you had done to get better prepared for it?
