I've been searching this forum for a minute and am still not finding the right answers to questions I have regarding 68W AIT.
I am prior service active army and recently went back to active reserves. I decided to re-class into 68W due to the fact that I want to be a Paramedic in the civilian world (I hate selling tires). Here are my questions:

Will I have to live in these 50+ personnel bays with the other privates or will I be put in seperate(and hopefully better) quarters? I'm a SPC if that helps.

Can I bring my POV to Ft. Sam?

Are they going to make me a class leader (I hope not)?

How long will processing take?

Is it true there aren't any more DS's there?

Will I graduate with my EMT-B? What other civilian certifications can I obtain after graduation?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

1. No, you won't live in the bays (which are about 30 people.) You'll live in prior service barracks which are 2 to a room.
2. Yes you can have your POV.
3. Prior Service has their own platoon, so you won't neccesarily be a squad leader. But for classroom stuff, yeah, I won't lie. You'll be counted on for a lot and a lot of people will ask questions about the Army. You'll enjoy it though. They'll treat you like you're a SFC cause at that point in their army carreer they think SPC is really high ranking.
4. Inprocessing, hard to say. Different for everyone. I got there and had 3 days to kill before the next cycle started. Some people were there a few weeks.
5. It's true there aren't Drill Sergeants. They're called "cadre" now. But they act the same. They just don't wear the hats anymore. Stupid if you ask me.
6. You get your EMT-B, yes. Down the line you can get your intermediate and paramedic.

Wow, so you're looking for a better quality of life without the responsibilities? Roll Eyes

I don't get to say this very often, btu with that attitude, the Army is better off without you. Just keep selling tires!

Oh dont give me any of that crap. The reason I don't want it is not because I have a crappy attitude about being a class leader, but rather I just want to focus on class and not babysitting. You and I BOTH know that IET training is NOT the real army.

If I was put in that position, I'd accept and move on to the best of my ability. I just really don't want that position. Just like I wouldn't want the position of Retention NCO either.

The first time I went to AIT, I remember them putting prior service guys in charge of us. It wasn't the most ideal situation for them. And I really felt bad everytime a Prior Specialist had a rough time trying to get a cherry PFC in line because the cherry PFC thinks: "Well Why should I listen to him, he is a SPC, not an NCO!"

You also can be sympathetic to the fact that, becasue its IET, I could never deal with problem soldiers the best way I see fit. I'd have to go running to the PSG almost everyday.

I don't feel like putting up with that while I'm trying to concentrate on studies.

As far as the army being better off without me, I really hope you don;t say that when you're following short-timers to the chow hall talking about bonus' and school-ops.

I'll never beg anyone to "Stay Army" ... the Army can't afford to keep ALL Soldiers anyway. There must be some attrition.
