I am interested in joining the army after the summer ends. I am Prior AF and got out 2004. I am ready to go back but wanted a heads ups so I can get the most out of my contract. I am not really to much picky about the job as long as I'm not a cook or cop. I was thinking about something like Human Resources or Paralegal nothing to technical. I wanted to know about the bonuses and if there is anyway to get a first duty station pick. I have spoken to a few recruiters who have been laying that option on me telling me that it is basically a "god given birth right" to get the pick of your duty station for a prior service reenlistment. I would only like to enlist for 2 or 3 years to see if the Army is for me, is that possible? To be honest I didn't get much out of my first enlistment because I did not have the knowledge as a first termer about what I could or could not ask for. This time around I am going to make the military work for me. So any advice or information would be nice.
What grade did you get out of the Air Force as? What was your job for them? Those two will make a difference. Basically how it will work is based on the job you qualify for and choose is going to determine the bonus. Dont expect a large bonus. You can only max out at 15,000 for prior service but your not guaranteed that amount. As far as duty station the guidance counselors at MEPS will give you a list of duty stations with an opening for your job and you can choose from those places. Hope that answered your questions.
