Hello, I'm looking to join the Army (I'd like to do 19D) however I've been in a bit of trouble in my past. I'm currently 22.
I've been charged with and had to pay fines for the following;
Speeding: 80 in a 65 Speeding: 55 in a 40 Possession of Alcohol under the age of 21 Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) Driving After 9PM (I don't remember if I had to pay a fine for this or if I just had my license suspended for a month and didn't have to pay a fine)
I've had the following charges dropped in court;
Possession of Marijuana Possession of Alcohol under the age of 21 (different from the one I paid a fine for) Reckless Driving Unsafe Lane Change Driving Without a Seatbelt Open Container
All of the charges I've had dropped and the DWAI were from one traffic stop when I was 18 (or 19, I'm not really sure), the rest of the charges happened between the age of 16-18.
Since the last group of charges (when I was 18 or 19) I haven't been charged with anything else or really been in any trouble.
My recruiter only asked me if I had any felonys (which I never have) but I told him about the DWAI and he said the Army treats that as a serious offense (and for good reason) so its pretty much like a felony. He didn't seem to care about anything else and didn't let give me a change to tell him about the other items.
All in all I've never really been in any serious trouble but I'm afraid the sheer amount of small ticket items will cause problems for me, does anyone have any insight on any problems they may cause or if it will stop me from enlisting?
I have a GED, I got a AFQT of 84 on the ASVAB and all my line scores were between 122-128.
it shouldnt be a big deal to get in, because i have known people with alot and i mean alot worse things on their records and have gotten in. you will just have to show them that you are better than your previous mistakes...know what i mean?
