I've signed up for the La Guard, I have yet to go to basic or AIT, I have another 6 months ahead of me until then. I have recently started thinking about switching to the Reserves. Since I have not gone to BCT, is that possible?

Coming from an Army recruiter's standpoint, you really suck. I can't stand recruits like yourself. Stick with your initial choice! Changing services only makes for more trouble and multiple ass chewings from the losing service. Just be a man, roll with your choice. None of this wishy washy stuff!! Damn I can't stand future soldiers like U!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost anything is possible before you go to BCT, as far as your contract goes, but it may be more difficult, since I believe you are considered to be IN the Guard as soon as you sign your contract at MEPS, unless I am mistaken. I had a situation kind of like that, with the exception that I didn't sign my contract because I didn't have my driver's license at the time, and I need it for my MOS (MP). So, in between going to MEPS and getting my license, I decided to go Active, so I just contacted my recruiter, and an Active Duty recruiter, and they helped me switch. Don't let anyone else pressure you into staying with something you don't want to do, if you have the option of switching. Yes, it may be more work, but I'd rather have a soldier who wants to be where he/she is instead of one that felt forced to stay where they are. Your best bet is to go talk to your initial recruiter, they have the best info, but they will undoubtedly try to keep you in the guard. Once again, if you are already considered to be in the guard, you may not have an option right now.

Dear CHESSBOXER,
First of all, the only person who needs to learn to BE A MAN, would have to be you. This is a community discussion where people are expected to be civilized to each other and ask any question they need without having to worry about people like yourself. If I wanted to hear a bunch of immature bashing, I would have gone elsewhere. Second of all, I can not stand up and BE A MAN for the simple fact that I am a WOMAN! Third, speaking to strangers like you just did me, says a lot for recruiters since you had to throw that in there. Don't ya think? Fourth, you don't know my story. You have no idea the bullshit I have been through to get where I am now with the Guard. I didn't want to be in the guard but got talked into it by a silly ass recruiter who probably took lessons from you. He talked me into joining the guard, then chose an MOS for me not knowing what the hell it was because he was in a hurry to get me into the swear in ceremony so he could go home. Had he kept his word and changed my MOS after, I would not be wanting to go to the reserves as I wanted in the first place. My recruiter is a piece of crap who blew me full of smoke just to get me in the door then wash his hands of me, which I assume is probably what you do. Now fifth and final, GROW UP! If your answer can in no way help me or anyone else, keep silent. How dare you jump my shit and tell me I suck and tell me to stick with my choice (which was my recruiter's) without knowing what's actually going on. Hope you have a great day!

NEVER TRUST A RECRUITER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nurd,
Thank you for your response and not judging me, which is more than I can say for one other. Had I had a little more knowledge behind me about all this stuff, I would not be in this situation and would've never let anyone talk me into being where I am today.

IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD, IT IS.

Yes, you can switch...disregard the turd who posted above by the name Chessboxer who is about as unprofessional and immature an NCO as I have seen post here in a long time. Rest assured that is not what you will routinely see serving in the Army's NCO Corps.

No one can expect that you will know what you want from the military when you are first exposed to it....don't be afraid to tell a recruiter NO, to ask questions and to do things ON YOUR TIME TABLE. A recruiters time table, work pressures and desires are not your concern, problem or anything that should push you to do something that you are not ready to do.
You can change your mind all you want before you head down to MEPs and you may upset a recruiter when you change your mind...don't worry about that. A good NCO will give you latitude, a bad one will give you shit because they are ill-equipped to handle their work pressures.

However, before you sign that contract you had better be sure because after your ink goes on the line...it's your baby and no amount of "My recruiter screwed me" will change it!

Trust me on that one...after you leave MEPs, your fourth point of contact belongs to me and I won't care what you tell me about your recruiter!

SSGGunbunny,
Thank you for your reply, and being civilized with me as well. Due to Chessboxer's response, I almost didn't want to come back to this site, even after using it for several months now. Good to know people like that don't come across here all the time. I spoke to the right person today at RSP and I think I have everything taken care of now. I will soon be where I want, happy, and on my way to basic...FINALLY! Where are you a drill sergeant at? I need to know who to hide from.J/K

ANXIOUS AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MY MILITARY CAREER!!!!!!!

Relaxin' Jackson. However, I am being assigned to a training center in Alabama this month for a year, so I won't be doing the basic training gig for awhile.
Don't worry though, you will find one of my battle buddies waiting for you there or where ever they send you for training.

In order to have a smooth basic training experience, start running now, start working on push-ups and sit-ups now and start doing pull-ups now! It doesn't matter if you can't do many or run fast or even run two miles, it will get you moving in the right direction early which will only help you in basic.

Go ahead and memorize the Soldiers Creed as well, you will have to have that committed to on memory week 1, as well as rank insignia.

Good Luck!

Is Jackson really what they say it is? You seem to be the one to ask. And Ill be in aviation so Ill be at Rucker soon after.

Ha, running. I can barely do a mile in 11:30. Haven't done that in at least high school..8 years ago. Im definitely going to be creamed in basic.Lol

Are the Warrior Ethos important to memorize before then too?

I think Ill be going to Jackson. Thanks for all your help.

It depends on what "they" say. Depending on where you are from and what time of year you are going to basic, Jackson can be challenging due to the heat and humidity in South Carolina. The training is standardized, so you will get the same basic training experience pretty much anywhere outside of the weather.

Yes, The Warrior Ethos is very important to learn as well.

I don't pull punches, so I will tell you like I see it...that run time sucks. If you do any consistent running before you ship, it will help you out a great deal.
If you can't run a mile, work up to it...run every other day...you will gradually get better. I promise you that it will lessen the shock that is heading your way and you will feel a lot more confident when you finally ship.

Hey RAYNE congratulations on your enlistment!
Now is time for you to do as SSGGunbunny says "train, train and keep training 'till your fourth point of contact get in that bus at MEPS"
Go in here http://www.ncoschool.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?to...260#forumpost260 download the Pocket Physical Training Guide and start training with the drill (Physical Training Drills) you will receive at Basic training no matter where you head to! Good luck and lead by example, 'cause you are about to be an American Soldier!
P.S. Dont forget to learn the Army Values and the Army song!

For the back bone NCO!
