Hello everyone. I am currently a 68W (medic) in a reserve unit here in Southern California. I thought I would make a career being in the medical field. After a few years I have come to terms that the medical field is not for me. I have been going to school and have one year left to get my bachelors degree in human services. After I am done with school I plan on becoming a deputy sheriff. I am not all that thrilled with keeping up with all this CEUs that comes with being a 68W. All these EMT refresher courses interfere with school so I end up taking up civilian weekend courses and thats coming out of my own money. I want to re-enlist, but I don't want to stay as a 68W. I know the 68W is a critical MOS. With that being said is there a posibility I can Re-Enlist and Re-Class to become an MP or am I stuck as a 68W forever?

You will first have to find a local MP unit that is willing to send you to school, which most units will specially MP's. Once you have located a new home, you will need to request release and assignment from your current unit. You will need to get a DA 4651 " Request for Reserve Component Assignment or Attachment" signed by your commander.

If you reenlist and get a bonus, you will have to serve at least one year in your current MOS or you will have to pay back the bonus.

Your best option is to extend once you have transfered units, get MOSQ as a 31B, then reenlist as a 31B w/ a bonus.

You should also look into Direct Commission since you are close to getting your degree.

Hope this helps,
