What we have is called ADSW (Active Duty for Special Works) It's somewhat unreliable as is it is dependant on funding and if there is something for you to do. Between that, drills, MOS school, and annual training time I went over a year with the Army Reserve as my only job. It's possible, but not something you want to depend on every time. If you can recruit, most recruiters will put you on ADSW for 2 weeks in exchange for 2 good referals.

Hey everyone, I'm leaving for basic training in June and I was told that there is a way to swith your Reserve status to Active Duty status in basic. Is that correct? And if so how would I do that? Please e-mail me at pfcdonnell@yahoo.com for faster response thank you.

While in basic, you are on active duty. That is automatic. To switch to active componant, you have to get a conditional release from your commander then go through the entire enlistment process again. The only shortcut is if you are mobilized as a Reserve soldier.
