You can't be AGR under a Regular Army contract. There are a small number of RA Soldiers attached to reserve units. I've only ever seen it once. Probably best to contact your branch about it. To actually go AGR, you'll first need to complete your RA contract, then get into the reserves. Normally a reserve Soldier will submit a packet online, then get offered a 79R position. I've heard of some special cases where Soldiers will be hired with no break in active service, but I have no idea where to begin with those. Duplicate post deleted.

I would suggest calling HRC-St. Louis and ask them for information. DSN: 892-5103/04
We had an RA SSG move straight from RA status to AGR status and didn't skip a beat, so it is possible. I dont't recall the details of how it went down, however.
Just keep in mind that HRC-St. Louis' "career management" is in word only, and there is no telling how they determine where to assign you. Be careful of what you wish for!

I know that you're able to put in an AGR recruiter packet from the RA side of the house, I have no idea what the chances of getting picked up are. I'm a RA detailed recruiter now, and my battalion is at 70% strength for AGR recruiters, with no incoming troops to fill the holes. Call HRC, and see if you can't barter for a 79R slot, if you're willing to live the recruiting dream for a couple of years.
Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentation of their women.
