I just got home from visiting my recruiter. I'm not yet enlisted, or rather I don't qualify yet. I have to lose 10 lbs before I make weight. However, i just learned that my ASVAB score i received at MEPS was an "unofficial" 51 and my actual score is 73 (my goal was 61). Anyway, that information is unnecessary because my question is this: what should I expect when discussing and following through with this MOS? As a female, I know there are different guidelines and requirements, but as of late, my recruiter will not tell me anything until i get my weight down.

I'm going to be a reservist, but there's a very good possibility of going active after the first year.

If anyone has any guidance please help.

Well I am an MP who is out in recruiting right now so I can answer your questions for you. First I dont understand how you have a 51 or a 73, which is it?
There are no different guidelines or requirements for MP for females. You just have to meet the Armys standard for females.

MP is a great feild. I am glad you are choosing it. Dont expect to get treated different because you a female. Thats one thing that will single you out quick is when a female cant or wont do for herself. It is good your recruiter is making you lose the weight. I cant stand a female who cannot maintain the standard and that goes throughout the MP Corp.

Any other questions just ask...Wink

thanks for your help. i didn't understand why i was given an "unofficial" score while at MEPS and my recruiter received a different score a few days later. but i did score a 73.

I don't expect to be treated differently because i'm a female at all. i'd probably end up resenting it. one of the reasons i'm joining is to prove to myself how strong i am, physically and mentally. and to see what i'm made of.

i'm sure i'll have plenty of questions about this process so thanks again, i'll probably contact you.

If you want to go active after a year why not just start out on active duty?

I was no MP but I do know this, if you want to go Active duty, don't wait a year in the reserves, just wait until you are ready to go active. It can be very difficult to go from the reserves to active duty. Not only do you have to have 6 months qualified in your MOS but you have to have a commander's release, which can be difficult if they are understrength. Just a little something to think about. Why not take your time, lose the weight and then some, join a gym and get in better shape, so that way when you hit BCT you are more than up to par.

Just a suggestion from someone who fought the "I wanna go active" fight and lost...

Whiskywife is correct when it comes to getting a CDR release. The other thing to remember is that if the unit you belong to is not overstreangth in your MOS (especially MP field) there is no requirement to let you go. Reality is if you request a transfer, once it goes through your CDR, it then goes through to the BN, then the GRP, and finally the RRC. With todays OPTEMPO (today meaning the 3 year plan) do not expect to be released as a MP to the Active, we need our MP's in Iraq and Afganistan as bad as the Active and NG. Not only was I in recruiting and had a hell of a time releasing MP's the CMD itself took at least 2 months. What is the reason for going MP? If the assumption is to become a police officer, being an MP does not qualify you, it's being in the military that qualifies you, not MP. If it's being a detective or CID? Look into the CID website before you think just being an MP will take you to CID CID website
Although MP is a great field to be in as ANY MOS in the Army is, you will want to think of what's after the Army also. What you want to do while in the Army and an actual career path. Any questions?

Two things you have to think about:

1. Ok you go reserves, finish AIT, come to your unit and now you are happy back home at work..oh now you are deploying, and there goes your plans about going active duty, your plans about your business, etc, etc.

2. Lets say you do stay home for that year you want to be in the Reserves, now you want to go Active duty, but your CO says "No"...well thats it, its a no, you are in the Reserves and there goes your plan of going active.

Lead by Example!!!

TransAm95NCO I forgot all about bringing up the deployment part. FYI, if your going to an MP unit in the reserves, look at being deployed. Even if YOUR unit is not being deployed, you can be a cross level into another unit. There are stipulations to cross level though. Ask your recruiter about them.
