I am in the reserves and trying to figure out how to get my student loan repayment started. I have some loans that I want to repay and I know I qualified for the 20K plan but have no idea where to begin to get it going. I tried to contact someone at my unit but they havent replied to me yet. If anyone can help that would be great!

What are my responsibilities?

Soldier responsibilities include:
- Initiate the DD Form 2475 annually. Soldiers should complete and submit DD Form 2475 to their unit at least 3 months prior to SLRP anniversary date. This will allow the unit time to complete its portion, forward it to the loan agency for completion of Section 4, and receive it back by the SLRP anniversary date.

- Work with your unit to complete the DD Form 2475. You must provide the unit with your account numbers and the names and addresses of your loan holders.

- Remind your unit that your anniversary date is coming up and that you are eligible for SLRP.

- Keep a personal copy of what is provided to unit.

- Frequently check with your unit on the progress of your paperwork. Do not assume that it is being taken care of.

- Maintain accurate and good records.

- Maintain good, legible copies of all promissory notes. Keep copies of all promissory notes, even when consolidating loans.

- Keep copies of all correspondence received from the lender (financial institution). Do not ignore letters or phone calls from your lender/creditor; respond promptly.

Personally send the DD 2475 to your financial institution. When the form is completed, have it returned to you so that you can coordinate with your unit for submission of all documentation to the SLRP Office, Ft. McCoy, WI.

- Do not let your loans become delinquent and go into default. Request a deferment or forbearance, whichever is appropriate.
