The thing is do you want to go civilian? Because going ar or ng is a civvie that is part time army. It is WAY different than active. all the stuff you get 30 days to do, the reserve and guard have two to three days to accomplish. Medals and ribbons come slower so if you are e-1 to e-5 promotion can be slower. all the time you are on the army standards. If you have done four years already- than stay in and finish twenty. at the age you retire most people will still be starting.

If you are past your 8-year military service obligation (MSO), they are offering 3 years for $7,500 or 6 years for $15,000. If you are not past your MOS, you can sign contracts for the remainder of your MSO and are paid a bonus based on the amount of months you have remaining. Also, most states are offering 12-months stabilization for Soldiers redeploying from OIF/OEF and some states are offering 24-months stabilization. You'll have to see an actual Reserve Component Career Counselor (RCCC) for individual specifics.

Damnit AR, that's my lane! good info though For those within MSO it toes not require a new contract, just a 4187. The associated bonus is an affiliation bonus. It is calculated $200 x the remaining months of the MSO capped at $10,000. The problem with this one is you have to be MOS qualified and the MOSs in your area will be limited. If you don't have an MOS for a local unit, you may also qualify for an MOS conversion bonus up to $2,000.
