i read an article discussing the medical affects of depleted uranium on MSNBC. My question is to the OIF and OEF veterans, have any of you been briefed on the effects of depleted uranium?

i bring it up because we see depleted uranium being used for more and more military equipment/weapons.

I never really received any in-depth brief on the effects of DU rounds. But I used common sense when approaching any Iraqi armor or vehicle that had been destroyed by U.S./U.K. armor and helo-gunships. There have been several articles and reports completed by different agencies on DU effects. There are risks for Soldiers who used cut out armor from destroyed tanks and APCs to beef up their armor for their Hummers. Increased radioactivity from the residue of the rounds could increase the potential for cancer and other illness. When I was in country in 2004 I did not get any informative brief other than a medical officer telling me not to get near any Iraqi tanks. I will say that after I returned from Iraq the medical staff found a small tumor in my head on the left side of the brain. It was removed back in 2005. The doctor said it was propably not related to the two deployments. But who knows.

Been deployed 2 times for OEF and 1 for OIF. Dont need to worry about the DU at all, you need to be around a lot of the blown up vehicles for a long time to see an effect. All the major deposits have been disposed of already. Only contaminant I had to deal with there was Cobalt-6 at a radiation site that we secured

now thats a scary thought, but unless your going around and trying to get contaminated i don't thing your going to feel it. but hay if down the line you wake up with a third eye you'll know why.
