Hi, I am a SPC with 5 months TIG (112006) and 1 year, 11 months TIS (042005) currently deployed to Iraq. I was promoted to SPC with a waiver as I joined as a E1.
I talked to my PSGT and he was unsure if I qualify to go to the board and didn't want to send me until he was sure my packet would be accepted and tasked me with finding out.
I know the army says 4 months TIG and 18 months TIS for promotion to SZ but my question is can I recieve a waiver for both TIG and TIS? Since I do not meet the requirements in both areas of the PZ.
Can someone please explain this better or give a definite "YES you are eligible to be promoted" so I can take it to my PSGT.
YES you are eligible to board for SGT, if your command/leadership deems your performance quailifies for recommendation for promotion in the Secondary Zone.
Board Appearance for SGT in the Secondary Zone is
16 MONTHS TIS / 4 MONTHS TIG (minimum)
Promotion to SGT in the Secondary Zone is
18 MONTHS TIS / 6 MONTHS TIG (miniumim)
****It takes basically 2 months from the date u "board" to the date your points are effective****
You are in the secondary zone for promotion to SGT.
The secondary zone (SZ) provides incentives to those who strive for excellence and whose accomplishments, demonstrated capacity for leadership, and marked potential warrant promotion ahead of their peers. Soldiers recommended for promotion in the SZ must be outstanding.
just dont be YOUR SGT that has a soldier and does not know this, your your First line supervisor is. There are not many things more important that your soldiers promotions and money, so that would be something a leader should know like the back of his/her hand.
