Yes, it's no uncommon. I was given 7 days notice before going to the promotion board. I was on detail at another base, and my unit had prepared and submitted the paperwork in my absence. I had been recomended by my SL a months prior, and they used that counseling.

Yup, I was told a week prior and it was SOQ BN level, only good thing was I had just attended the promotion board so uniform was squared away and I had already been studying.

Yes, I was told 2 days before the SOM board that I was going although I was under investigation and I reminded them of it but my PAC hadn't flagged me yet so they thought it was ok so they told me 2 days before the board which I went competed agains 3 other soldiers and won the board and 3 days later I was flagged and disqualified from the SOQ. So I guess it is normal...
I was told 5 days prior about a SOQ board (2 days, consisting of PT/weapons qual/hands on + board), and 7 days prior twice for two separate SOM's. 2 weeks is perfect! Enough time for you to get nervous, and study your butt off, but not long enough to forget everything..
