where can i find info on som boards as far as policies or regulations governing them. i am being forced to go to one and i think that it is wrong to be forced into going. some info would be great!
You should honestly suck it up and go, it's a wonderful learning experience and will help you get ready for inverviews out in the civilian sector since you are sooo eager to get out of the military, think of it as actually helping you get ready for the drill that you will get from you new boss escpically if you ever go up for promotion.
I am still in amazement that your command wants you to attend this board when it seems obvious from the start that your carrer with the US Army is ending. Some units feel that sending Soldiers to a board (for that matter any board) regardless if he/she wants to go is a done deal. I have had several Soldiers "forced" to attend Soldier of the month boards because either the command forgot about it and then needed someone to fill in for that unit or it was just another means of "games" to play. I find forcing Soldiers to attend Boards a disservice because for one the NCO who is bringing this Soldier in is giving the impression of their leadership abilities and if the Soldier doesn't want to go and then bombs the board it usually falls on the NCO who takes the "a-chewing" for bringing this person to the board in the first place and wasting time. You are ACAPing, as a PSG you would be the last person I would want to send to a SOM board. Either the command is doing this as a last ditch effort to get you to feel confident and make you want to re-up or it is some kind of "fill the slot with anyone" type game. You did your time, thanks for serving, good look in the civilian market place and just ensure that your last months are not painful.
Then if nothing else, just play the game and do the board just to keep you out of the hot seat before you leave.
If a Soldier wants to really leave the service I won't stop them and force them to do extra duty. You did more than 90% of the rest of your fellow Americans by joining the Army.
