I am going to the E-5 board in a week and am down to 2 subjects that I am not really sure what to study that are on the MOI. Convoy Operations and Safety. What should I focus on for these 2 subjects, any ideas?

I have a quick question for you. What technique are you using to study?

I have been study each board members section, starting with one subject and each day adding another until finally the last few days I am reviewing all of them, then moving on to the next group. This has worked well for me, I attended a mock board a few days back and was given a 146. With a few pointers from the board I plan on smoking the real board.

Safety... i would say review your Bn policies on safety first. Next have an understanding when soldiers are prone to get hurt or worse ie.. after a deployment and right before they come home from a deployment, so you can speak about it intelegently. understand the risk essesment form and policy that your Co/Bn uses. This may give you cover if a board member asks a question that you don't know. Be able to talk about the DUI policy, that is always a biggy. Know who is responsible for giving safety brifings at your level. Safety is a broad area, so you need to be able to just "let go" when and if they ask you a question about it. ie "sgt Doe, as an NCO the safety of the soldiers assigned to me is very important ......policy....risk essessment ... etc "

Convoy ops..... since i don't know what your MOS is ... at this point i would go to the CT soldiers manual. Look up plan convoy security ops task 191-379-4407. Its a skill level 3 task but ... i would use it to get an idea of who the major players are in convoy ops. The soldiers manual for your MOS would be my next stop, to see what it says about the subject at your Skill level and at the 3 level. You should be able to make some pretty good study cards from these 2 resources.

good luck RFH
