I am going to the E-5 Board at the beginning of May. My S-1 is telling me that since I have the points (already know going into it that I am coming out promotable) that I can be promoted at the beginning of June. He says that Its no longer 2 months after the board appearance. On the other hand I have heard from several different people that it still takes 2 months. So i am just trying to figure out whats going on. Also is the promotion board similar to the soldier of the month/quarter board as far as having a packet put together consisting of the bio, quality of life etc. What does the promotion board to E-5 promotion board packet suppose to have or is it differnt for every unit.

Lets start with the points! Have you check out your DA Form 3355 online at www.hrc.army.mil go to enlisted promotion and it should be on your right hand side! 2 months? depends when your S-1 input your info in the system! lets say you go to the board before the 8 of may, than by june 21st your promotion points should be effective! Yes the promotion board is similar to the SoM and SoQ board sometimes easier! What you need to do for your packet is; print out your correspondence courses history, make copy of all Certificates of achievement you have and let the commander certify them as true copy, get your latest Army Physical Fitness Training Score Card (DA Form 305 if i am not mistaken), Get your latest weapons card! and make sure your ERB have all your info (Awards, PT, Weapons, Military education,etc...)updated in order for you to verify your points on the DA Form 3355! If you have any other question just ask! or go to www.ncoschool.com and read the FAQ on the DA Form 3355 in the forum!

Thanks for the info.
I have been to 3 boards in the last month. Soldier of the month, soldier of the quarter on 2 different levels. So my ERB is up to date with all my awards and correspondence courses. I hoping that they can have the points in the system so that I can get promoted on the 1 June. As far as the packets go what they still have my packet from the board i just went to a few days ago. So what I think they will do is just change the date on the memorandum.

Is your weapons score and APFT score listed on your ERB? I had gone to god knows how many boards before the promotion board, and no one ever noticed that they weren't..those can get you. Your weapons should be right above correspondence courses, if I recall correctly. Your APFT should be on the right side.

What memo did you have to have to attend a SOM board?

As long as you turn in your points before around the 10-15th of the month, you will be fine once you go to the board.

I think I needed a memo of recomendation from my 1SG. Yes I have an updated range and pt score. My last pt test says 1 NOV so its still good right now. I just went to the range a few weeks ago and thats in there also. My S-1 is fast at making things happen. And my commander and 1SG is really pushing for me to be promoted before I leave the unit.

If you go to the board before May 8th, your points will become effective that month, so you could possibly be promoted June 1st. If the board is after the 8th, they shouldn't become effective until June, but in some cases (like mine) you may get lucky and still have them count for the May 21st cutoff.

I was/am in the same boat. I'm leaving my unit in 7 days..went to the board last month, but they really pushed it, because I was leaving. Unfortunately, my S-1 is not as high speed. I just got orders to Macdill 14 days prior to my flight..

Either way man, you'll have your P. That's a good way to leave your unit.

If your S1 is high speech, once you are done with the board, they should be able to input your points in the system the same day...
When i went to the board 1 april, i thought it was going to take to month, but my s-1 told me if i make cut-off for 1 may, then i get promoted...
SO make sure your ERB is updated

My board is on the 6 MAY.
They should put the points in that day.
I final around the 14 May how ever.
According to my s-1 they can hang on to all the paper work and promote me on 1 June. I will still be in the area before I go to next duty station plus I really want my command now to do the promotion. Thanks everyone for the good info
