If I reclass to 35P through the Bear Program, will I be guarenteed the language identifier that I choose? Or are they going to assign me to the language of their choice. I see in the Bear Message several languages are listed, my question is whether I would be reclassing to 35P and not 35P (RU) for Russian for instance.

Are you all ready proficient in a foreign language? If so then you will take the Defense Language Proficiency test (DLPT) for your fluent language. If you aren't all ready fluent then you will take one of the most difficult exams....the Defense Language Aptitude and Battery (DLAB), to measure your ability to learn a foreign language. So for one you would have to score high enough on this exam to be in one of the language categories you would like to learn. Then from there it is the needs of the Army. Not to mention you will most likely have to obtain a TS/SCI with a polygraph administered to be awarded the MOS. Furthermore this is how this MOS can suck if you aren't all ready fluent in a foreign language. I have seen even effing RUSSIAN translators be sent to Iraq! Now the one I am talking about in particular Russian was his native tongue, so he will not loose his language proficiency in the Year in Iraq due to the lack of language immersion. You could though. Do you see what I mean. So goo get the DLAB scheduled through your Ed Center. It is usually only offered every 6 months so if they have one in three months and you miss it you will point blank screw yourself. Then start the ball rolling to initiate a TS/SCI w/ polygraph which will take at a minimum 3-4 months to obtain. You have a lot of work cut out for you. When you fail the DLAB come back on the forum and mention that it is VERY difficult. It is called Karma what goes around comes around. You help someone know the difficulty of the test so they don't go in blind then that good deed will come back to ya. Good luck. Most people do fail the DLAB and many more still can not be awarded the TS/SCI/ w/ polygraph.

I HATE when I do lengthy replies to language questions and they never respond back.

It ALWAYS happens EXCLUSIVELY with language MOSes. The greedy idiots always hoard their personal experience, and NEVER share with the forums.

I have come to a personal conclusion that MOST seeking info on a language MOS are of the most SELFISH SERVICE of the military.

Done with my diatribe, have a good nite.
