I'm deployed to Iraq and want to reenlist in the next few months. I work nights so it's hard to contact my reenlistment NCO and and haven't found answers to these questions elsewhere.

One of the many options I'm considering is reenlisting for Civil affairs (38B) under BEAR program. I know the bonus is paid after AIT, in that case, would it be taxed? The FOB I'm on doesn't have the medical facilities to do an airborne physical. Can the requirement for one be waived temporarily as long as I pass one before school?

Also, If anyone in CA has some experience or comments I'd be very interested to hear.

Your bonus will be taxed; it's based on your tax-free status at the time of reenlistment.

I've never had a airborne physical waived before extending for this MOS and I doubt it can be because, what if a Soldier does not pass the physical?

Could it be waived for other MOS, or staying with my current one?

Thanks for the replies

Airborne physical's canonot be waived. You must be fully eligible for the MOS (or school) you're going into prior to signing contract.

I've never heard that a MTF cannot do an airborne physical, regardless of location. Although I am not a doctor, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, I believe that any doctor can perform the additional step(s) to complete an airborne physical and stamp the physical. Isn't it basically a matter of popping your ears or something like that? I could be wrong, though.

I'm not looking to waive the physical so much as defer it. I'll have to wait then.

The MTF at my FOB cannot do the hearing and optometry exams, which are part of the physical.
