I went to reclass as a 97E/35M this year as a SSG. I was selected for E-7 during the course and was promoted 01 JUL 07, first month after graduating. From june 21st i had 90 days to reenlist and get my extension forgiven. Now the current and previous BEAR messages for a very long time say E-7 can get the E-6 bonus due to the shortage. Now there were 3 other Soldiers like me, we all got promoted to E-7 and we are all at 9 yrs service. Now the two from Bragg and my friend in Campbell did what everyone else does. Met the retention NCO, handed them papers, re-enlisted within 24 hours, got their extension forgiven, and in 10 days got the bonus.
Now I am at campbell too. I handed over the papers and was going to re-enlist next day. The counselor stops the reenlistment and says I cant reenlist DA has to approve it. She claimed that a memo had to go to DA to approve me recieving a bonus as an E-7 and a to have my time forgiven, especially since the memo was expected to be back before the 90 days were up. Now i asked two of the other 3 that were in the same situation, they had no idea what i was talking about and thier retention people said it wasn't true.
So my retention says DA has 90 days to respond with an answer. So here i sit in baghdad, 70 days after the memo was resubmitted for the third time with retention saying "I haven't heard anything." so did I get screwed, because it sure feels like it. Everything in the world said E-7 get a bonus, BEAR says my time is forgiven, My friends got that deal, and I did not. Where did they screw up, what can I do, who does this memo go to, who can I talk to, what can I do, i want my contract, time forgiven and the money, who is at fault, can it be appealed to / fixed. Please Help
