I met with my career counselor today about changing my MOS from 52D to 35L through the bear program. He said there was a process i had to go through that was different from the normal bear process to get into the MOS, but he didn't seem to have any more information on that. It seemed like it was an interview type process. Has anyone ever heard of that?
Also, he mentioned that you would be denied the MOS if you had any civil convictions other than minor traffic violations. I had a DUI about 6 years ago and took a plea agreement, but still plead guilty. I'm assuming that counts as a civil conviction, but does anyone know if this is waiverable?
My magic 8 ball says it will most likely not be waiverable. Seriously though, I think you screwed yourself with that DUI. Find something else that you will not need a top secret clearance for. There is something inherently crappy about 35L though. It is ALWAYS on BEAR. If it was an awesome path that most people loved then folks would just stay in. I don't wanna hear the "oh it is because they get a position in the civilian sector for way more speech". Cause guess what.....most MOSes in the Mil. Intell. field do also. I suspect it is a good life as long as they aren't in an Infantry unit, this is where I believe crap hits the fan. Any 35L's with some knowledge please chime in as the reason you feel this MOS is always on BEAR and promo points are ALWAYS real low.
Some people just give their perspectives on how they view something. You should however contact the personnel that are going to process your packet to find out the info you need. If you have issues just send me a PM.

I have been in the military going on 7 years now. I had to get a waiver to come into the military because I got a DUI when I was 18, 2 months from shipping to basic training. I am currently an 11c and have been accepted into the 35l program. I already have a TS clearance. So to answer your question, the dui did not screw me but I am sure each case is different. I got mine prior to the military and the only reason it was classified as a DUI was because I was under the age of 21. The best advice I can give you is just be honest when going for your TS and that each conviction will be looked at on a case by case basis. For example, I had a blood alcohol content of .04, legal limit was .08. If you had a .10 or something extreme like that I am sure that will be factored in. Good luck

Oh, and one more thing. I asked the same question going through my interview process on why this MOS is always so short, whichs leads you to believe something about the job sucks. The E-7 conducting my interview answered the best way he could have. He pulled out a box filled with business cards of contacts he had made while serving and sayed he was just waiting for his enlistment to end so he could jump to the civilian side and pull 90k+ a year. So its not that the job sucks, you just make good connections, have good skills, and can make alot more on the civilian side.

Congrats on getting accepted into the 35L program. I'm currently deployed and I was able to finally find a 35L after searching for some time. Just a few questions for you if you don't mind answering.
1) How long did it take after your packet was submitted to find out you were accepted?
2) Did you go through the BEAR program for it?
3) Did the CI agent who handled your packet submit it to HRC or was it your unit S1? Reason I ask this is because we're deployed as a single battery and have virtual no organic S1 support.
Appreciate any answers you might be able to offer. Good luck in school.
