I'll try and explain this situation so that it's understandable. I want to reclass to 96B. Would I be able to extend my contract to attend the schooling and then re-enlist afterwards? If I were to re-enlist before schooling, I wouldn't be in my "B" Zone. I want to extend my contract so that it will put me into the "B" Zone so that when I re-enlist with my new MOS I'm able to receive a bonus for that MOS. I already received an "A" Zone Bonus. For reclassification is that a re-enlistment term minimum of 4 years or 3? Thanks in advance for your answers.

This sounds like a BEAR Program situation.

By extending under the BEAR Program, you'd extend your contract past the AIT's end date and then reenlist (3 years minimum) and receive a bonus.

Hmm, alright so my ETS date is 29 SEP 07. What I'm trying to do, I don't know if it's possible. The school for 96B is 4 months long, which would put me at around february of 08...how, if at all possible, would I be able to push off re-enlisting until Jul of that year so that I could be eligible for a "B" Zone bonus?

When you see your Career Counselor for the BEAR Program, you'll either be given a list of available school dates or request a specific class dates based on parameters you give them.

When you graduate from your AIT, you'll have 90-days in which to reenlist (for Option 1, Regular Army ONLY)

Alright, so would I have to pick a school date that is going to start before my ETS date or would I be able to pick one thats after my ETS? I'm trying to go into this as informed as I can be so that I don't get thrown around and not know what's going on.

With the BEAR Program, you'd extend your current ETS two years past your new AIT graduation date.

So, it really doesn't matter what school date you select; except for getting it after your 6th year of active service.

Alright, so you're basically telling me that I'd be able to take a school date a couple months passed my original ETS, then go to my AIT and afterwards, when I get passed my 6 year mark, I'll be able to re-enlist to get my "B" Zone bonus? Sorry for all the questioning I just want to make sure I'm understanding everything correctly. Thank you so much for all the advice

Yes, because you're going to extend your contract two years past whatever the class graduation date is. Then you'll reenlist within 90 days of graduation.

You do not have to pick the 1st school date.

Your Career Counselor will ensure you are placed with the correct school date or it will be an erroneous BEAR Program extension and he/she will be held accountable.
