I am planning to reenlist via the BEAR program for 91W. It is only open to Non-promotable SPC. How long must I remain non-promotable? How does the automatic 48 month integration affect this non-promotable requirement? I am currently a 25F with 39 months TIS, 20 TIG.
You'll be non-promotable throughout the AIT and as soon as your gaining command sees fit that you should be promotable, they will send you to the board.
If you become promotable before your AIT class date, you can be disenrolled from the BEAR Program and you must serve on the extension.
It's not really an AUTOMATIC integration; a commander can choose not to allow the promotable status.
Either way, it may be beneficial to learn your new job as a SPC rather than as a NCO when you'll be learning your job as well as supervising others at their jobs.
Little secret about Fort Sam, they don't stick to the rules, when I reclassed, we had soldiers getting promoted to Staff Sergeant in our class. As long as you show up wearing spc rank, you are fine, what's the worst that can happen? They take your P until you finish school, then you go to your unit for 90 days, prove yourself technically and tactically proficient, and bam, you are promotable again. If you have 798 points that is.
