My husband is leaving in May to change mos through the BEAR program. He will graduate 08/15 and has orders to report to new duty statiion 09/30/08. He's being told that he's TDY Return. Is there anyway he can have it changed to TDY Enroute? IF so, when and how? We don't want the kids to start school here and then change a month later. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

If your husband is TDY and return, this means the installation is paying for this TDY and he's coming back to the same installation; not just to outprocess.

This has to be changed prior to him extending, although he may be able to get with his Career Counselor to have it changed ... where is he now and where does he want to go after training? (Although the follow-on assignment is not guaranteed)

Well...Maybe they don't know what they are talking about then. They told him that he would come back to process out of this post. He's at Bragg and he has orders to report to Riley 09/30/08. Are you saying that he is TDY Enroute?

I am in a similar boat though with less time to move around... never had so little time; any tips? I am stationed at Ft. Campbell though currently in Iraq and just got my orders to report to WOCS at Rucker on 19 May. By the time I get in the states I will have about 30 days to get all my gear ready to go to school. I have 5 days in between my WOCS (Ft Rucker, AL) and WOBC (Ft Huachuca, AZ) classes. This normally might not be a problem except that my TDY orders for WOCS and WOBC are TDY-and-Return which means I have to return to Ft Campbell in between the two classes since they won't give me both 1610's so I can just drive straight from AL to AZ. And oh-by-the-way I am on assignment to Korea with a report date 29 days from when I graduate WOBC. Which means I will have to get from AZ back to KY, outprocess, clear CIF, pack up my house and family and get us all to Korea by the end of Oct. This will be almost 15 months w/o being able to takie leave because it wasn't my time yet during the deployment and then schools for another 4-5 months. All I have to say is what a P.I.T.A.

Okay then my questions are....can he have it changed before leaving? Why can't he process out of this post before school? Our children's new school will start Aug 14....I don't mind them missing a few days of school but if he has to come back to Bragg then the kids will miss a few wks. And what about our household goods? We are leaving our housing at the end of this month.

It is like AR stated after your first post. Bragg is paying for what ever school your husband is going to he is TDY and return due to the fast that if he fails the school for some reason he will not PCS or should not since the PCS is only due to his change in MOS.

I am the same way with the orders that I face. It should state on his e-mail that I think EMPD sents to his AKO e-mail that his PCS is only upon completion of the school. I don't think that with a change of MOS a school can be TDY Enroute due to the fact that if the soldier fails the school and still arrives at the next dty station they are going to be put in an MOS that they are not quailified for.

This TDY and return is not always the case, I personally went TDY Enroute however I was not changing MOS's just adding an ASI.

Because he'll need to belong to someone besides a TDY location; a parent organization if you will.

This is the military and even though great strides have been and are being made, families are not the #1 priority ... mission is. Over my career, my children missed out on school and changed schools in the middle of the year. Even though I knew it was going to be tough on everyone, especially the kids, they adjusted very quickly and I believe they're mentally stronger because of it and will adjust to various other situations in the future easier. (Wow, THAT was a long sentence!)

Do you have a specific question about your household goods? Why are you leaving the housing at the end of the month?
