I am currently an 11B at Fort Bliss, Texas, and am ready to move on to a different job. I am a PFC, and am due to get SPC in 2 months automatically, i am currently waiting to get my e-4 before I do re-enlist. I understand that 11B is a Y/N on the in/out calls, and it will be harder for me to reclass. right now i am signed up to take the BMST test, and hopefully reclass to 21P after receiving SPC, however, if i am unable to get the 21P job for any reasons, would anyone be able to help me figure out what other options i have as to getting a new mos, i want something that can get me more options if i choose to get out.
If you cant get the 21P job I recommend you stay as far away from the 92 series mos's as you possibly can. I reclassed 2 years ago from 19kilo to 92W and the culture shock is unreal its a completely different world and a totally different way of life compared to combat arms. I thought combat arms was bad well I came to Quartermaster and I now realize that combat arms was the way to go and if all goes as planned I will be making my return to 19kilo very soon. They say that if you can get a job in Military Intel it carries some pretty good opportunities outside the army. Good Luck with your quest for a new job just make sure that its a job you can live with.
thanks for the feedback, i know leaving combat arms is going to be quite the change, but i really do want something more challenging.
Also, if anyone who has taken the BMST test, could PM or post here some good tips, and some heads-up on what to be studying for the test, it would be really helpful. All i hear is people say "that test is super hard, not many pass it." then when i ask, "why, whats on it?" no one seems to know, at least nothing too specific.
I would pick 15T or 15U.. blackhawk crewchief or chithook crewchief.. life is better when you get to look down and see your buddies humpin the rucks and you are flying to where you need to go... plus the flight pay aint bad either so i have heard.. if i could do it again that is the route i would take
that sounds like it could be a great time, only question is would it be open to me? thats more of what im looking for, is what would be open to me in my situation, being 11B and trying to reclass, im told its hard to get out of it.
Your still new to the army, dont judge the infantry on whats going on now... it gets more and more difficult. try going to the 82nd or something. Once you become a team leader its a whole different world man.Plus you get non stop opportunities to go to schools.
i dont necessarily judge the infantry as a whole by my experience with the unit im with, although it does leave a horrible taste in my mouth. more than anything its due to being in a non-deployable unit, with leadership that openly state they dont want to be here either, and many other reasons, that i dont need to bring up.
I will add that no where else in the Army will you find a sence of Brotherhood then you will in a combat arms mos. Theres nothing more I miss about in combat arms then being able to look at the man on my left and my right and know that they had my back...
I use to be 11M back in 98-02. You are right Infantry is the bomb, the brotherhood, the schooling, the training, best 4 years of my life. I got to play in the dirt and shoot a wide array of weapons, jumping out of Bradleys, every boy's dream!!! Then I got hurt and had to reclass, I chose 71L (changed to 42L now 42A), wow culture shock is crazy. The sometimes lack of respect and discipline, (that is a whole other topic now a days), working with females for the first time, (easy to overcome). But being from combat arms helped me out so much more as a soldier in my next 2 units, then others that have not been combat arms. The experience, respect and training that I brought with me was extraordinary. The only downfall was the promotions, just about the whole 4 years I was promotable was above 750, I got up to 722 and then I ETSed, was out for about 6 months and came back in as a 92Y. Probably the greatest satisfaction that I have had in the short 2 years that I have been in supply, working down in the supply room at first and now up in the PBO office is great. Going from Infantry to Admin to Quartermaster has made me a well respected and very knowledgeable soldier. All my different experiences and training has made me adapt to the constant change that the Army has to offer. Each unit that I have been to has brought it's own attitude with the people assigned there. Only you can stay positive about it and try to make it better there for you and for others. If it's your first or second unit, you really don't have much to compare it to. Your next MOS or duty station may even suck ass more, and then you will be wishing that you were back where you came from. I hate soldiers and NCO's that complain about their jobs, units, duty locations, especially the ones that don't do squat when they are there!!!!!! If you are in a non-deployable unit right now, then better yourself now, personally and professionally. My apologies for making it long, but really think about it first, don't jump to conclusions just because of one unit.

yes. i was reserves first for a year before going active duty, (i know that doesnt mean much of anything) but then i joined active wanting to go do the fighting i trained up for, i came to my current unit motivated and ready to go, however, quickly the morale of everyone already here(2 suicides, 4 Awols, everyones negative attitude about the place, DUI's everyweekend) brought me down pretty quick(yes, thats my own fault really i know), but either way, its just been a slump, then a few months into it i said, doesnt matter, im not going to let this place bring me down, and bettered myself, i went out and recieved my EIB, i have been taking correspondence courses online, ive attempted to go to college while im here (which was shot down pretty quick), and have just been upbeat and working hard. yet our unit is suppose to be testing the new FCS programs, and honestly, the 2 years ive been here i havent done anything i would consider 'testing new equipment'. I was honestly ready to say screw it and ETS and go home, and go to school, after when i tried to get air assault school and was declined(because im part of the mounted section on the Bradleys, only dismount soldiers got to go to school) however, i figured i would give the army in a whole, another shot. thats when i started looking into new jobs, i realize the entire infantry isnt like this place, but i just would like to try something new.
After reviewing things, i just want to use my brain more, challange myself more in that way. Not to mention, i recently got married, and would like a job that can lead to a career, so i can raise my family better than i could with just staying infantry.

21P is an application MOS and currently on the BEAR Program, you said your waiting to pin on E-4. In order to become 21P in the BEAR Program, Soldiers must be promoted to Sergeant prior to reenlistment. Under the BEAR Program you extend first then reenlist after graduation of AIT (within 90 days of course completion). In another post you stated you were in the Army Reserves, are you an Initial Term Soldier? Do you have less than 180 days of active duty while in the Reserves (BCT/AIT/OSUT)? If so and you are an Initial Term, you are open to all five reenlistment options: Regular Army, Current station stabilization, Army Training, Overseas Assignment, and CONUS station of choice. If you have more than 180 days, then you are a Mid-career and have all options except Option-3 Army Training.

i was in reserves while in high school, i did the 9 weeks of basic then came home to finish school. i did reserves drills until i graduated then went straight into active duty.
and using option 3, the army training one, how does the in/out call status of my current mos effect that. am i not allowed to switch at all? or only into certain jobs. i noticed even while using the BEAR program, theres only a small handful of jobs open.
