BLUF: I am being told by my Career Counselor that the BEAR Program is a E3 reenlistment option - is that true or not? I could not find anything in AR 601-280 regarding that.

A little about me: SSG (non-promotable), 31B, 10 years TIS, 24 months out from ETS interested in reclassing to 35L. I understand that I am considered a careerist now and I am only eligible for option E1. My CC told me I'd have to do a voluntary reclass request instead of BEAR.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The BEAR Program and Option E-3 (Army Training) are two separate categories. Once you are inside your 24 month window and if you meet all the qualifications for 35L, your Career Counselor should have no problem working you into the BEAR Program. 35L is on the current BEAR message for SSG with a "C" zone SRB. You have 90 days from graduation date to reenlist and take the SRB, this will be your Option-1 (INDEF) contract.
