I am hoping someone can help me. My husband is in basic training now and he needs some answers. When he enlisted he originally wanted to go in as 14E. On his ship out date a guy at MEPS said that there was a problem because he had too much bad debt and couldn't get a secret clearance. So they went through jobs and the only job that sounded ok to him and was leaving about the same time was 92F. They renegotiated his contract and his ship out date was pushed back a few weeks. Now he is 5 weeks into basic training and they pulled him, only him to go get a secret clearance. He scored an 86 on the ASVAB so the only thing that was keeping him from the job he wanted was the secret clearance. Now that he has that can he change his MOS while in basic or does he have to wait until reenlistment. We are hoping not because he doesn't want the job he has. If you can help it would be wonderful.

They "pulled" him? What does this mean?
Although I hear many Soldiers say that they were told they can change MOSs whenever (based on conversations with a recruiter), you're husband will most likely be able to reenlist for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option when he is within 24-months of his ETS. How long did he sign up for?
By pull I mean they came and got him out of training for a couple hours to do an "interview" for the security clearance. The guy doing it was confused as well because you don't need a clearance for the MOS he has chosen. Since he has it now then will it be easier to get the MOS he had chosen originally when it comes time to reenlist?
