I joined last June as an 89D trainee, and it really kinda ticked me off how I couldnt find anything on the net about what i was about to go through, so Ill answer any question out there as best as I can..

First things first though..

* If you have poor study skills, you wont make it. Definatley take some classes on taking notes.

* Anyone thats dedicated to it WILL graduate and earn their crab.

* 99% of the tests require an 85% or better to pass, where missing more than 3 questions will fail you.

* The MOS isnt insane, its just us. We work smarter, not harder. We perform our job the safest we can, but its never safe.

* Yes, there are Drill Segeants at the 10 week pre-course in Redstone Arsenal.

* No, they do not like you there. The Drill Sergeants are Ammo Specialists (possibly EOD roll-outs), as EOD tech do not do recruiting or Drill Sergeant positions.

* Funnest MOS Ive seen out there. The Instructors are the greatest bunch of people i have ever had the pleasure of working with, and they ALL want to see you graduate.

* You never work alone, but what you know is the deciding factor in a life/death situation, and your life isnt the only one on the line.

* After Redstone Arsenal, you move on to Eglin AFB, FL. Yes, there are Drill Sergeants there too.

If I didnt touch on anything, lemme know and I'll try to clue you in.

This post has been deleted due to the fact that the person portrayed on this website as "ArmySlaveHooah" is, in fact, an impostor.

Your comments shows your inexperience in the army, Private, Your MOS is not elite, the ARMY does not just function on one job. It takes a collective force to keep the military functioning. All MOSs are elite and needed for if they weren't there would only be one. We are all trained in BCT to be 11B, not 89D. As A DS, I will tell you we treat every Soldier the same, MOS does not matter. I am nowhere near being a roll out. I to have a top secret clearance and a GT score of 126. I was well qualified to get any MOS the military had to offer. I am a 94 series not a 89. My military sense far surpass yours becuase any good Soldier knows we work together as a TEAM. Maybe once you're in the army long enough you to will grow to know this, maybe we messed up with you by not imbedding that fact in your head. But as a leader, all cannot be reached and we owe you an apology for you being one of the unfortunate. Sorry, you'll never know what a great honor it is to be a Drill Sergeant but like our jobs here everyone can't do and by your comments the ARMY and new recruits are the lucky ones. Hope someone in your leadership guides and mentor you and you LISTEN and take it in. GO ORDNANCE

I don't think anyone can say it any better than that.

i went through EOD training at redstone and made it to the ground division at Eglin before failing out, very hard school, in my opinion one of the best most fun and rewarding mos's in the army, and it is an elite job, never any drill sergeants there though, not sure what this guy is talking about, at redstone or eglin. not that it would matter. they are the back bone.

also one more thing i would like to add to this, rank really don't make a difference while in training for EOD, AT LEAST while in the school hall, it not a matter of who likes you or who you like, every body is there to aquire that crab. iam a PFC also and still stay in contact with a lot of people i trained with at redstone and eglin, from E-1 to O-3 and every one in between. any who,

J if you look his post was in 2007. I think one of the biggest mistakes the Army made was taking drills out of AIT. I was a reclass to EOD and my original MOS was 21B combat engineer. Had drills all the way through OSUT. I can also say I would follow any of those drills to hell and we both would come back.

I plan on re enlisting in October to reclass to EOD. Does anyone know how the current training is and how it is for prior service? Thanks

phase 1 is now at ftlee phase 2 is still eglin. training isnt hard its just easy to fail. mos-ts have their own barracks and are released at the end of each duty day the same with any other day. just stay away from the privits.

I see this post was from way back in '07, but I just had a few qustions if anyone can answer: I am a new Recruit haven't even left for basic yet (leave in June) i was just wondering is there anything specific anyone can say i should practice/learn other then taking notes? I am good with notes and a smart thinker, My AFQT was 89% and my GT score was 126 but its hard for me to believe that thats all i really need to do to prepare efficiently for AIT. I REALLY want this MOS, and its annoying how i can find next to nothing about tips or other information on EOD except for taking notes. Any additional information would be great.

YO "bibbles" you cant be a DS. Either that or its a new Army. How could u say there arent elite MOS's out there. Ur trippin. EOD is most certainly "Elite". True each MOS is IMPORTANT, but some more Elite than others. Plus, my DS' s never said/allowed the word "sorry". Not even sarcastically. Go Ordnance. Armament For Peace. MF
