I am still in high school, and i elisted with the army national guard. i was wondering if it is possible to change mos? i have 4 months before basic and i scored a 98 on my asvab. i want to go for rangers
Did you enlist or are you in the Delayed Entry Program?
If you are in DEP you can go and renegotiate your contract as you have not sworn under oath at an official enlistment ceremony.
Also unless they have reduced it to 100 GT Score, last I checked it was a requirement of 110 GT Score or higher. So is that your ASVAB Score or your GT score?
I'm not an expert, but I think you'll have a hard time getting Ranger in your contract if you enlisted national guard. Even then, they'd only send you to Ranger school and your best off with a combat MOS. If you want to go active, it will be much easier to be Ranger, and the 75th Ranger Rgt. takes many MOS, not just infantry.

I am an 11b. The best way to become a Ranger is to join the Army. Guard units must pay to send their soldiers to Ranger school and new privates in non infantry units will not get slots. And honestly you will wash out.
if you join the Infantry and graduate they will send ANYONE who meets the PT (push ups-running-pul ups-sit ups-) GT and airborne physical requirments to jump school then a Ranger Battalion. Jump school (or Airborne) is located right down the road form your basic training. After three weeks at Jump you will either go straight to a Ranger Battalion for a few months of training or go straight to the Ranger Indoctrination Program. RIP is a requirement for all E5 and below PERIOD. Only then will you actually report to Ranger school.
If you really want to be a Ranger or Special Forces my advise is go to a light Infantry unit and make E4. Learn a little something first.

A 75th has all the same MOS's that a regular light Infantry Regiment has. Even Ranger companies have medics and commo guys and supply guys. But they do not (typically) go to Ranger school.
Also there is only ONE Infantry Reserve unit. The rest are Guard. Above I mention the problems with trying to get a Guard unit (Infantry or not) to pay to send a Private on permissive TDY, to pay for Airborne, RIP and Ranger School.
Officers might make this happen but its a long shot for junior enlisted. But then again there is always a way!

With the activation of the Ranger Support Co, and the Special Troops Bn, the 75th has quite a few non infantry MOS. 50 MOS total by my count. While Ranger school is not a requirement to be assigned to the Rgt, I can't see anyone that's qualified being denied the opportunity. Besides if someone really wants to go Ranger, that's the best way to go.
