I am looking to re-enlist as a 68E. If anyone could tell me what they think about it. Is it really boring or a lot of BS to put up with?

I know as far as deployments/field problems go it isn't bad. Please let me know. Any help would be nice.

Thank you

68E!!?? Wow. Coming from a 68M standpoint that's a little crazy. What is your MOS right now? I'll just say that any MOS in the 68 series has a dreaded promotion rate. 90% of the 68 series consists of: if you make E7 then "YOU MADE IT". There really aren't too many higher slots available. (Doesn't apply to 68W) Like my MOS we have one E9 slot in the entire Army. And come to think of it, I don't even think we have one anymore. And only like 6 E8 slots!! Come on thats crazy!!
But you are right about the deployments. On deployment, you will be profised to a CSH, if you aren't assigned to one. And the deployment will be easy. But from my perspective, if you aren't a 68W, good luck getting promoted to E6 and up!! It's possible but takes a lot.

I am a 14E right now in PATRIOT. I have been wanting to work with Dental for a while but when I enlisted my recruiter told me it wasn't available.
I am E4 right now. I don't exactly plan on doing the full 20 years but who does? Promotion isn't the biggest thing I am worried about. Right now I am just trying to do something that actually interests me and also to get out of PATRIOT. Any suggestions?

Well by all means then do it. If it is something that you want to do then I don't forsee it to be a problem. If the promotions don't bother you then you should be good to go. Talk to your career counselor and see what your options are to get into it. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Well my career counselor doesn't even like his job. He was like... well here is the web site you can look up the jobs yourself and just call me when you find one. I had to look up the In/Out call and requirements all for myself.
How horrible is that? I hate people in ADA

Anyone else know anything about this MOS? I am about to re-enlist for it. Just trying to get a little bit more information on it. Someone told me it is being phased out unless you get dental hygienist too. Anyone know anything about this?

I'm a 68E, used to be known as 91E. X2 is Preventive Dentisry, and November5 is a Lab Tech. You might be able to get X2 in your contract, but not Nov5. If you do decide to get into this MOS then do it for the right reasons. You must love patient care, and help with Dental Readiness and Wellness. To many 68E's sham the system, YES I speak against my own kind. I'm the only 68E in my clinic, the rest are either X2, N5's, or Practice Managers. That's what I get for winning boards and getting selected to travel tdy to Germany and Fort Sam all the time, or I would be X2 as well. I've never been to a field unit, it's much different then TOA. My only advice would be, do not change over to this MOS if you like to be promoted quickly, and if you don't plan on always being motivated to help all services of the armed forces; Including 5000 man SRP's, sick calls, CQ, painting HQ, planting a garden, moving rocks over gopher holes, assisting oral surgery, sucking spit, memorizing your ortho, infection control, and many other polocies, contributing to MSDS's, re-organizing over 4 thousand records, and much much more. Or you could leave it to the High Speed SPC to do it for you, but like I said I would prefer not to have another Master Shamartist in this MOS. Oh yea do all that while maintaining your 300 pt score, because we only pt 3 times a week on our own.

To be promoted from E4-E5, E5-E6, E6-E7. You must max everything, every time.

Well thanks for the input... I didn't really ask for you personal opinion about shamartists. I just wanted to know what the MOS consists of and what not. I don't mind doing off the wall things now and then. Just so long as its not an every day thing. I want a job where I can actually do my job. I know right now I haven't been able to score a 300 on my PT test yet but fast promotion isn't a big deal to me. If I wasn't interested in helping patients why would I want to re-enlist into some sort of medical MOS? Thanks for the lecture and all but alls I wanted was information on the MOS

Being a 68E is cool. I'm a N5 and I've grown to love it. Hard at first because I reclassed from a 45K just the transiton from working with soldiers to civilians is a little difficult at times.
