I am really wanting to change my MOS. I am currently in AIT for 63B and it is not at all what I thought it would be. Everyone keeps telling me to wait till I get to my first base station or that I can not change it. I really dont want this eventhough I have years of experience being a mechanic. I am active Army and have only 2 weeks of AIT left. I didnt get a bonus neither and that has nothing to do with me wanting to change. Theres got to be a way. Please help me out with this.

After you graduate you will only be able to change it once you reenlist.

Dav is not entirely correct. Their are multiple programs and MOS's that are by application only and/or do not require reenlistment to request reclassification (although you may need to extend to meet service remaining requirements).

There's 21P-Prime Power Production Specialist, 89D-Explosive Ordanance Disposal, Special Forces, and many others.

Check out http://www.armyreenlistment.com and maybe you'll find something. Keep in mind some programs require 12 months time-on-station. Good luck.

Diesel is right. There are lots of ways that you can change your MOS, but you're going to have to graduate AIT and get to a real duty station first. My advice would be to not worry about reclassing and just get to that duty station and do the job you enlisted for at least 6 months or a year. Then you can consider in/out calls, BEAR reclasses, and all that crap. People will be more willing to help you with your goals once they have an idea of who you are. If you just show up and want to change immediately with zero days in the real Army (BCT/AIT is not the real Army) people will think you are a flake.

Look, then leap.

Reclassing through all those special things they mentioned (EOD, SF) or any voluntary MOSs is a possability...that most require specific ranks and a minimum TIS. So youre not going to have an abundance of options right after graduation.

I to am a 63B that half way through AIT hated it already...I was at my first duty station for a year and never did my MOS. Now im in Iraq doing the job of 88N (movement personel).
Im planning on reenlisting and definetly reclassing.

But just hang in there. Everyone keeps telling me that if i ever got to actually do my MOS that i would enjoy being a mechanic...but i dont think so. lol. But when you do get your station. Like Shammaster said, dont come out immediatly(sp) saying you hate your MOS or your job (you havent REALLY done it yet). Especially not to your Motor SGT, go to your retention office and start planning out ways once youve got more time in that you would be able to reclass. Once you know your NCOs a little better then explain how you feel and see how/if they can help. you might be suprised.

Good luck.

I definetly understand your situation.

P.s.: our in/out calls REALLY suck. Basically our MOS is ALWAYS allowing ppl out but RARELY/NEVER letting people out. But when its time for you to reenlist there will be a chance along with the voluntary MOSs mentioned above.

I understand that I have to get to my duty station first and that I will have to serve some time in the field I chose. Im just really looking for how to change and who I would have to talk to to do it. I appreciate all the feed backs and theyll help me greatly.

You'll see your Career Counselor to get a reclassification process initiated. You'll also see your Career Counselor when your 24-month Reenlistment Window to reenlist for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option.

Your Career Counselor will be the unit's "go to" person for just about anything...and you can always come back here! Wink

ArmyReenlistment guy:

I also refer to all of my prized possessions as "my crap." I got that habit from a charming DS a long time ago: "You brought that crap, now you can carry it with you"

Good times, good times...

I can tell you from experience, to reiterate what cmm10 told you, you may have an MOS that you might never use. Such as mine. I'm a 44E that went to AIT in Aberdeen, went to my first duty station and didn't use my MOS. Soon after I went active and still don't use my MOS. But I will be in the sand box doing someone elses MOS that I really don't like. I sit at a desk and type all day. I am now a 92A. Yeah life sucks but when you get to your next duty station (or your first duty station)you might be doing someone elses MOS. Who knows you might like it more than the MOS you are training for now. When that year is up and you get your chance to reenlist you might just want to use the MOS that you might be using. Remember the MOS you are training for is just your primary MOS. You might never use it. Just stick it out finish your course and enjoy what the service can give you. I hope this is something that might help you out. Maybe not now but sometime in the future, you'll understand the real way the ARMY works. Hooah!
