My AIP was submitted in December of 2006 and it was approved in January of 2007. My current DEROS is April of 2009. My window to aip agan opens up this coming april. i was hoping to aip again, just because im trying to get married here and i need more time. i heard i could reenlist for a couple days more to my ets date. if this is true could reenlist that way with a aip request in my reenlistment contract

Sniper:

Have you been downrange yet? If not you are only allowed to AIP once... Also there is a limit to how long you can stay in Korea without some pretty high ranking people signing waivers...

DOg Robber is correct...if you have not been downrange yet you will not be able to AIP again as you cannot be there more than 2 years, you AIP'd last time for how many? If you have been downrange you can AIP and stay in Korea for up to 5 years.

Let me know if you have any questions about AIPs, is one of the things I worked on when I was there.

Lead by Example!!!

I just got a message from 8th Perscom that AIP's might be going away if congress does not approve to continue the program. and also HRC won't approve any AIP if it does not get to them before the 120 day minimum submittion date requirement

I believe AIP's are going to be non-existant in December 2008.

But being stationed in Korea is going to be extended from a 12 month tour into a 24 month tour upon being stationed after Dec 08.

I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I think is happening.

What the others have posted above is mostly true. If you're willing to re-enlist they may be willing to work with you staying here. I've seen people get worked with and others get kicked to the curb. The standard is that you can only AIP once but I would talk to your 1SG and CO and see if they can work a deal for you. Some units operate different than others but if you mention your going to re-enlist they'll pretty much work with you on most things.

Do you have ANY information to back your statements up?

If you can reenlist try reenlisting for stabilization at your current unit.

A soldier of mine did the 2 year AIP option. When his time came up he didn't want to leave Korea. He talked to our BN career counselor and she found a slot for his MOS in Youngsan (he was stationed at Camp Humphreys). She was able to request the station and it was approved by higher. Granted it wasn't easy, it required the signature of many a ranking officer, but it worked. Now I don't know how it works in other units, but in ours it seems like anything is possible. If you (the soldier) are willing to give a little they (the Army) is willing to work with you. Like I said, that has been my experience in MI units. It may not work that way else where.
