If you can reenlist try reenlisting for stabilization at your current unit.

A soldier of mine did the 2 year AIP option. When his time came up he didn't want to leave Korea. He talked to our BN career counselor and she found a slot for his MOS in Youngsan (he was stationed at Camp Humphreys). She was able to request the station and it was approved by higher. Granted it wasn't easy, it required the signature of many a ranking officer, but it worked. Now I don't know how it works in other units, but in ours it seems like anything is possible. If you (the soldier) are willing to give a little they (the Army) is willing to work with you. Like I said, that has been my experience in MI units. It may not work that way else where.
