I am reuping for EOD not using the BEAR program. I have a school date but I have not reuped yet. I have gotten a Alpha bunus once so I cant recieve that, I cant get the Bravo Bunus until the day I leave for School (Jan 24). I asked if I could extend my school date one class so I can reup and get a bunus. The retention NCO is telling me that I cant even get a bunus because getting EOD is my bunus. Does anyone know if that is true or is she not doing her homework and telling me what she thinks is true. I am a 31B and the B bonus is not bad for a SGT and I am trying to reup as soon as I can. Please help me with my problem

So your reenlistment option is E-3, Army Training for 89D, Correct? In order for you to receive the bonus for 31B in the "B" zone, you would have to remain an MP for the 3-6 years of your contract. Have you seen the current Caps for the bonus. 15,000 for MP and 40,000 for EOD. That is not to say that the bonus message will stay the same for the next few years or so. You cannot get the bonus for 89D until after you are MOS qual and you reenlist as a 89D on your next reup. My advise is to stick with the reenlistment option for Army training, hope that the bonus situation remains unchanged, reenlist when your window opens again and drive on as a happy camper.

I understand I have to be a MP for 6 years for Brovo Bunus. and I will if I can get my school date changed one class date. The Retention NCO is telling me thatI can not change my school date because this getting the school is my bunus.

Couple of questions for you:
How long have you been in the Army and have you been an MP for the entire time?
When is your school date?

I can tell from your first post that you reenlisted at least one time and received an "A" zone bonus, correct?
When I was talking about the 6 year part I did not mean 6 years in the Army as an MP, you would have to remain an MP for the entire term of your reenlistment contract to keep the bonus unless some other things happened that we will not discuss in this post.
Lets say that you reenlisted for 4 years for the Army Training option for 89D. You go to school, graduate, go blow stuff up, then in 2 years your window would open back up IAW current policy. At that time, if a reenlistment bonus is available for 89D, you could get the "B" zone bonus providing you are less then 10 years AFS and eligible for the bonus.
If you choose not to reenlist for and attend the 89D school then you could reenlist for other options that you are eligible for as a 31B.
When DA puts you in a school seat, they have done so based on slots, there are limited number of seats available per FY.

I have been in 5 years all being a MP, I will hit my 6 year mark on Jan 25 (the same day I got to EOD School. My ETS is 10 Oct 08. I know there are plenty of seats for EOD school. I am just trying to get my school date moved to 1 Feb 2008 (the next school date). so when I do reup I can get a bunus.

Ok, the AFS is straight now. You are reenlisting for Army training. There is no bonus entitlement due to the fact that you are getting a new MOS.
Regardless of your school date, the no bonus fact will not change unless you give up the 89D training and reenlist for other options, that is something I would not suggest.
This reenlistment will NOT get you the bonus that you are after. The next time you reup, you will be an 89D, if bonus is avail, you will get it.
The only way to have your cake and eat it too is to go into the BEAR program. That way you get a new job and a bonus after graduation. Your reup NCO is correct on the bonus facts.

When you reenlist for Option 3, Army Training Reenlistment Option you cannot receive a bonus (unless you were deployed and receive the deployment bonus).

Why can't you receive a bonus?
1. You are not qualifed in the new MOS (89D).
2. By receiving the 31B bonus, you are agreeing to serve X years as a 31B (which you are not doing by selecting Option 3).

Why not extend under the BEAR Program? This way, you'll receive the EOD bonus (currently up to $40,000) upon graduation from AIT.

Normally, if your MOS is understrength, you can extend under the BEAR Program; but EOD has an exception.

If this is not clear, let me know.

Thanks for the info. I cant do the BEAE Program because 89D only has a A bunus and I have already recived a A bunus. So I cant use the Bear program becuae of that. but thank you for the info...I am reuping on Thurs.

You could have actually done the BEAR Program because they will base your SRB from the course completion date (when you will be eligible to reenlist - you will be in the B Zone), not the date you extend.

I'll research to see if you can have your current EOD class date converted to a BEAR extension.

There is no Brovo zone bunus for EOD Bear program only alfa
