I'm glad I got my $26,000 while I had the chance.

So if I'm reading this correctly then the bonuses are not "expected" to go back up for a while? I know that anything can happen, and I know that my husband's bonus went down by about $600, but he's hoping the army will see a need for SSG medics in their c zone before the end of FY08....

What the trend use to be was that they would wait until the end of the year to give out the highest paying bonus. However that has changed, and they are now paying out the highest paying bonus at the beginning of the Fiscal Year, and downgrading over the year. Soldiers could try to wait until the next fiscal year to see if they go back up. However that is a gamble, and in this day and age it is advisable for Soldiers to take the bonus that is currently available.

Are you looking at options and/or bonuses?

Since you don't enter the next zone until later on, if you want a bonus, you'll need to wait. (Even though I really never tell anyone to wait, it's your choice. Wink)

Waiting until a fiscal year ends - this depends on where the Army is in regards to recruiting and retention. If the Army's goals are already met or forecasted to be met, bonuses will decrease.

Waiting until a new fiscal year - bonuses are normally level or decreased during a new fiscal year and they may increase or decrease upon each quarter based on needs.

The bottom line is, if you're ready to reenlist now, reenlist. If you continue to worry about what a bonus is going to do, you may get an ulcer like those brokers on Wall Street. If you know you wnat to stay and the option you want is available, take it. You never know what's going to happen tomorrow or next month.
