I initially enlisted for 5 years for $20,000. I have only received two installments of my bonus, $7,000 & $4333.33 respectively, with the rest to be paid in 2 more annual installments ($8,666.66 remaining). With a little less than 18 months until my ETS date left I re-enlisted. So, here's the question. Do I lose the entitlement to remaining amount of my original enlistment bonus? Even though I'll still serve those 18 months and 18 months of service time remaining was deducted from my re-enlistment bonus?
I do not know much on this subject but I am pretty sure armyreenlistment does. He will probally respond to this message very shortly. All I have is one question. Did you reup in the same mos that you enlisted for.
Just doing what it takes to get my butter bar.

Well, I've already received $10,000 for my re-enlistment lump sum. I should have paid attention to the maximums placed on my MOS by the MILPER MSG, because my retention NCO (not Career Counselor) indicated that I would recieve over $12,000 and failed to mention that the maximum imposed limit would prevent that amount. I can clearly recall him saying to not worry about it, it'll be the full amount.
If it is true that I should recieve the remainder of my original enlistment bonus, will that also be lump sum or will it continue to be in two more installments that are remaining?
Side note, I don't understand why a $10,000 limit would be imposed upon a MOS with a 2.5 modifier, when that limit is easily achieved.
You will remain receiving your installment payments from your Enlistment Bonus (EB), but this will not be converted to a lump sum bonus.
CMartin hit it right on the head with his post; "reenlistment bonus is only for the additional time you added on to your original ETS".
Yes, most maximum bonuses for A Zone (under 6 years active federal service) are $10,000. Your Reenlistment NCO should know this.
As for your side note ... I really don't understand this either, but I wil look more into it. Once reason I can see is that the attrition rate may have something to do with it. Younger Soldiers being chaptered as opposed to Soldiers with over 6 years in the military.
Would they consider my federal time in service from prior enlistment when offering bonuses for initial enlistment in the Army? The reason I ask is that I already have more than 6 years prior service on the FTS counter. In fact, my current FTS counter is 7 years 4 months.
If I understand what you are saying, it suggests I'm already out of Zone A though I haven't even signed the initial contract at MEPS, is that right?
