I have been on the verge of reenlisting for a very long time now...but I still dont knoe exactly what I want. I was thinking about the engineer thing by going 21C but I was told they do the same stuff as the infantry down range pretty much, and I was also looking at the promotion points for the 21C and they are very low. I am staying in the Army and I am currently a 25B but points will probably be locked up for a while and I am looking for fast promotions. The way I see it if I go either 11B/C I will pick up E-6 in no time at all, and probably the same with 21C, but I cannot choose which is best? I dont know any infantry guys or engineers so I have nothing to base anything off of. My plan was the reenlist to reclass using option 3, going either one of those MOS's for about 5 years and then hopefully pin E-6 on and then reclass back to something alittle more laid back. Also a BIG goal of mine is to become a drill sergeant, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also , I wanted to be in an airborne unit so I will probably volunteer for that in AIT

Well, I use to be a 21E(Heavy Constuction Engineer) and i am Airborne. Basically engineering is a pretty good MOS, we just returned from a year deployment in Afghanistan, had alot of fun. We did area and route clearence, we dealth with all types of landmines, so if you like to see stuff getting blown up, or you hitting it and blowing it up, you might have fun with been an engineer. When we did are Airborne operations, it usually takes a long time for us to recover after words. Meaning basically we had a field problem every time we jumped, and you do lots of FTX's and your always out in the open doors. The promotion for engineers is always quit low, so getting E-5 and E-6 want be much of a hassle, but i recommend that you know your stuff, because alot of NCO's I've came across didn't know jack. But overall the corp of engineers has alot of great MOS's to get into. I hope this help. If you have any more questions about engineering please feel free to ask.

11C is balanced for SGTs and above. If you were a SPC and below, you could reenlist for 11C.

the promotion points for 11C looks like they are pretty low, do they usually stay under 450 all the time? Which would be best down the road in like 10 years, meaning getting to be a drill sergeant and also maybe making E-7 in 10 years 21C or 11C

I am not due to PCS germany until August 2009, I am planning on possibly reenlisting in about a week or two, right now I am not promotable, say in the next 18 months I go to the board and get promotable, will I lose my Promotable status when I leave here or will i still keep it going into the 11C MOS and possibly get picked up right out of AIT? I have close to 610 points as of right now so I know I wont have any problems picking up 5 and 6

I'm no expert when it comes to 11C, but since they are balanced from SGT through CSM, it would probably be more beneficial to go with 11B if you're in it for promotions; 11B seems better than 21C for promotions as well. But this can all change depending on restructuring and others reclassifying into these MOSs.

If you reenlist as a SPC(P), you may not get 11C because they are balanced at SGT.

If you reenlist as a SPC, you may lose your AIT slot if you attend the promotion board. You will be (or at least should be) counseled on this prior to you reenlisting. You'll have to get prior approval from the new branch for attendance at the promotion board.

I have talked to the retention NCO and he is kind of new so he is asking the higher ups for advice also, but before I ask this I wanted to run it through this forum and see what kind of answer I get, I am 2 years out as of right now and I reenlist for 3 years for infantry, if my ETS is 2010 then this would only extend me to 2011 correct? And the reason why I am thinking like this is simply because I will not recieve a bonus for reenlisting for option 3, my DEROS isnt until August 2009 and my new ETS after reenlisting will be January 2011, so what would be the soonest I could reenlist again for to get station of choice or something else?

This is correct. The minimum reenlistment period is 3 years for Option 3; however, you must also meet the service remaining requirement for your school and follow-on assignment. So, in your case, you may need to extend or reenlist for 4 years depending on your school date and follow-on assignment.

If you renlisted for 3 years, technically, you could reenlist one year from that date. Could you receive an assignment out of it? Depends on if you have already graduated AIT and have been at your follow-on location for 12-months (if you go CONUS).

I just got done talking to my reup nco and he called a higher up and this higher up looked on his system on what they are offering me, come to find out they were not offering me anything that I was looking for and the only 21 series MOS was 21U which is ok I guess but not what I am looking for, so this higher up says that 21B is a level 1 MOS (said it was needed bad right now in the army) and that I qualified for it but he didnt know why it didnt show up on my options, I was thinking that it was because my MOS is a 25B and that my in/out calls were Y/N and the 21B is N/N, and this higher up said that he could get it for me that he would have to just send up a request...all of this is for one question, whats the possibility of this happening in my favor, transfering from 25B (Y/N) in/out calls to a 21B (N/N)? Can this be done?

25B is the higher priority at the moment.

I dont want to settle for somthing that I am not really interested in, I looked at 21U and it looks like its just a surveyor maybe, right now I am in a strategic unit, and I really just want a MOS thats more tactical and has good promotions, they offered me 21U but do they have tactical assignments and is the promotion pretty good there?
